Audio Issues got their new wordpress theme design by running a design contest:
Music Production Resource Needs a Fun and Modern Design for Home Studio Musicians

Entertainment & The Arts
I help home studio musicians make a greater impact with their music by teaching them how to produce, record and mix themselves. I write audio production tips, eBooks and video tutorials about music recording, audio production, home studio recording and such.
PLEASE NOTE: These are my suggestions that I have in mind, but please show me original ideas based on the websites I have attached below. My cartoony style idea is a good start but if that doesn't quite work for what you have in mind I'd rather see your original ideas than nothing at all. I want the website to be a resource for home studio musicians that need help improving their productions. It should have an aura of confidence and fun. The front page is the main page to start with: I have a lot of in-depth guides that would then be shown in order on the home page. Example: I have a guide on buying recording equipment, another on setting up a studio, and another for recording instruments. These guides would be shown on each block of content down throughout the home page, similar to how this page looks: https://ohmy-business-theme.little-neko.com/ohmy-main-demo The user interface that I have in mind for the website is inspired in part by Problogger: https://problogger.com/ and the way they set up their start here and resource pages. I would love to have cartoon characters created to portray each of these guides, similar to the cartoon character on www.DrumMixToolkit.com and the avatar I've attached. CATEGORIES AND CARTOON IDEA I've attached an example of my cartoon avatar that would be good to use for the following categories: Shopping for Equipment -Not sure how you can make it look like he's shopping for gear but maybe have him sit by a computer and have the screen show a cartoon version of Amazon.com (I've attached a screenshot but you can make it much simpler). Another way would be to have him by a computer and do a thought bubble that has equipment and question marks? Setting up a recording studio -Avatar with a tool belt (and maybe the Drum Mix Toolkit www.drummixtoolkit.com PSD attached), setting up speakers on a desk and installing acoustic treatment. Recording Tips category -Avatar plugging a cable into a microphone that’s on a stand over a drum kit. Around him are other mics on stands pointed at amplifiers Mixing -Avatar sitting with his back against the audience by a desk mixing, maybe have the blender from Step By Step Mixing on the desk. A few different speakers look like they’re blaring music between him. There’s a giant screen that looks like it has a mixing DAW open. Mastering -Same concept as mixing but in this case, the avatar is maybe wearing a Jedi hood and a lightsaber Running Live Sound -Avatar wearing a t-shirt plugging in equipment at a live venue. Dirty speakers, broken beer bottles, torn carpet. COLORS AND VISUAL STYLE I think finding the right combination of the blue from my current logo and a good orange/yellow/amber with a light gray and white would be a great palette to work from. I also want bold sans serif typography that's easily readable and simple. I don’t want squiggly lines and fancy fonts and I like big fonts for easy readability. I'm a big fan of comics and cartoons and I like the website to portray usefulness without taking itself too seriously :) HOWEVER, I would love to see any other design ideas that you think would fit.
NOTE: Please use placeholder copy/text or draw from the website where applicable. I can fill in the copy as we go along. I'd rather get the initial design look first before we spend time putting the right copy on the page (and since it'll be coded later it will always be subject to change). Home Page: Logo, or variation of the logo (just the ai graphic or just the audio issues text?) in the top left corner. Navigation somewhere that has Start Here, Blog, Products, Community. Also needs an About and Contact navigation somewhere. Call to Action to sign up to email list (use copy from www.audio-issues.com) Cartoon of the Avatar somewhere pointing to the call to action or subscription box? or another design idea. That's just a suggestion Headline saying, What’s your audio issue above the categories but below the fold. Then a group of categories with corresponding cartoons or graphics, based on inspiration from the web pages submitted: Buying Audio Equipment? Setting up a Home Studio? Learning to record instruments and vocals? Mixing your tracks together? Mastering your music and finishing your album? Running Live Sound? Making Money in the Audio Industry? 7. Another call to action for the Cheatsheet. 8. An About me section, using my avatar and maybe photo together. 8. Footer with social media links and the navigation again? Resource Page/Start Here/About Page: Sort of a mashup between this: https://growthlab.com/guides/ultimate-guide-to-email-copywriting/ and this: https://problogger.com/start-a-blog-portal/ and https://problogger.com/start-here/ The goal is that the person has clicked from one of the categories on the home page and is directed to a resource page that has an overview of the category with relevant links and resources throughout the page. Maybe there should be a “recent posts in this category” widget at the bottom, as well as a call to action box for the cheat sheet, in addition to the footer that’s everywhere. This page should really be able to double as an About and Contact page by just changing around the content of the page and adding a contact form. Blog Posts: I would like a featured image on the blog posts. I want large headlines and readable text with lists, subheadings, block quotes and other formatting to be represented. I want a call to action box to subscribe at the top and bottom and a nice looking author box. Some recent posts in that category would be great too as long as it doesn’t look too cluttered. I’m undecided whether I want the blog post page to have a side bar or not…I’d love to see any options. The blog posts themselves will be really long and in-depth so maybe it’s better to have them take up the entire page?
What to avoid
Don't get too color happy :) I like bright and vibrant colors but sticking to blues, grays and maybe amber/orange/yellows as accent colors (or any complementary accent color) should be good. I like new modern themes, I'm exhausted with my current theme and I'd like everything to tie together but on my theme, especially in the blog I have too many design elements competing. Keep the font choices limited especially :) The main goal of the website should be to educate in a fun way, so clean design that's still fun to use is a priority. Also, no neon, no dark themes, no frames, no design that can't be made mobile-friendly,
Please don't hesitate to message me if something is unclear or needs my input. I'm revamping the design after 6 years and it's the first time I'm getting a completely custom look so I want to make sure I find a designer that understands that I'm looking for and is willing to communicate with me to fully get what I need.
