This contest is being run on behalf of a client. We have created a plain text version of the new site. After the design is completed, we will do the development. I have uploaded a zip file containing two pages from the text-only version of the site - the home page and one of the services subpages. Subpages on the site will generally resemble the DIY page.
For the services subpage, I have uploaded the brochures of the materials he uses on all of his jobs. The company (Rymar) has given him full permission to use any of the materials from those brochures that he wants to use on his site - including logos, images, descriptions, etc.). Please use them in your designs.
You don't need to follow the layout I provided literally. But please keep the widths of the columns and overall width of the pages intact when you submit your designs.
The original site (http://www.deck-sealing.com/) was developed in 1999 and hasn't been modernized. We just ran a logo contest and have a new logo. It is included in the zipped file.
The goal of the project is to modernize the site.
When submitting designs, please start with the home page. The 6 finalists will be asked for subpage (DIY page) designs. That way we won't waste everyone's time.
We hate websites like this:
http://www.opwdecks.com/ (ugly and old-fashioned)
http://www.thompsonswaterseal.com/ (ridiculously large files that accomplish little in terms of design and make download times really long)
http://www.woodrenew.com/ (silly use of really large files on home page, plus just plain ugly)
Sites that are advertising driven.
This isn't great, but is one of the nicer competitor websites we've found: http://www.decks-etc.net/
Overall, the competition in the client's industry has ugly, old-fashioned, home-made looking websites. He wants a modern, beautiful site.
Focus on personal & professional service, superior service ratings from multiple people and companies, ability to handle any size job.
