How Bob37421003 started their web page design journey
Who are you known as?
Artimys Language Technologies
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
The Artimys Guardian Service protects children online. Our software "reads" electronic messages and detects threats to children in them. The current product detects sexual predators, but is also capable of detecting bullying, suicide risk and dangerous behaviors like drug use and sexual activity.
We sell our product through family security software vendors as an upgrade to their product.
Our website is consumer-facing and will be used by our partners to promote our product.
What industry do you think your business is most related to?
I like full-screen backgrounds. I want the design to help tell our story. To gracefully move people from understanding what we do to how we do it to the facts that prove our points.
Our mission is serious, but we appreciate good design and beauty. It's a challenge to honor the seriousness of our mission while at the same time delivering a great design. We hope the you embrace the challenge.
More detail in the attached specification document and the copy. It's acceptable to combine the "About The Artimys Technology Guardian Services" page with the "About the Technology" pages into one page if it makes sense.
- About The Artimys Technology Guardian Services
- About the Technology
- Where to get it
- About Artimys
There are 2 levels of detail in the copy. The copy under "About Guardian Service" is narrative and light on detail. The copy under "about the technology is detailed technical information and data to support the argument that our technology is advanced and effective. To get our point across effectively we need to move fluidly from the narrative information to the data-oriented information. In the copy I structured it as 2 separate pages with the first page having sidebars. While I was putting together my list of sites that I like it occurred to me that the more modern and probably more effective way to organize the information is on a single page using vertical scrolling to move from narrative to fact, emotion to detail. We can use horizontal scrolling to provide depth on a particular topic (machine learning, psychometric, etc.) or to organize the data for the topic.
What to avoid
We do not wish to be cute or snarky or ironic. We're asking people to trust us with their children's safety and we take that seriously. We wish for our website to convey that we sincerely take that seriously.
We want to avoid projecting military or police strength (shields, etc.). Instead we want to project maternal or paternal protection. Loving, warm but safe.
I love design. I love beautiful design that can both serve the website's mission while still offering beauty and utility. The chosen design must serve our mission by conveying the benefits of our technology. We believe in what we're doing and the site MUST at least infect others with that belief. But we also want beauty and good design. I hope that you see that as an exciting challenge.
I've done another crowd sourced design project (logo). I love giving feedback and I love the process. I can't wait to see what you all come up with and I can't wait to interact with you all and guide to the best possible design. Expect quick and thoughtful feedback. Especially if your design is equally thoughtful.
Thank you for considering our project. We're excited about what we do and we're looking for a designer who's excited by what we're doing and wishes to contribute to Artimys.
