Entertainment & The Arts
Author of "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck," the website is one of the largest self-help/life advice blogs in the world.
I'm looking to redo the design of the page for individuals articles. (Ex: https://markmanson.net/why-we-all-need-philosophy) What needs to change: - I would like to keep the large images at the top of the page but we need to find a way for the text to begin above the fold. It takes up too much space right now (see examples below). - Many of the articles on the site are very long (20-30 pages in some cases). We've started adding Table of Contents (ToC) to some of the longer articles like the example above. Right now it looks like crap. I'd love to have a stylized way of doing the ToC and maybe have some really cool design features showing what article the reader is in, etc. Get creative with this. - Just generally make the page look cooler and more professional. Right now it's a bit bland. You can change the body font but not the header font. - I'd like to have an icon somewhere at the top of the article that says "Evidence-Based." (See examples) It should be stylized to fit in well with the overall article design. - Most articles have audio versions, so we need to include the audio player near the top of the page. ALSO NOTE THAT 75% OF MY TRAFFIC IS MOBILE PHONE TRAFFIC. Therefore, I need to see designs that will look good on mobile phones and/or be easily transferrable to phones. This is important!
See above for details. Also feel free to ask for feedback on ideas or other website examples you find.
What to avoid
I want to stick with the same color scheme and brand identity. Things that I want to stay the same: - Header font - menu/nav bar at the top of the page - No sidebar content anywhere - Stuff at the end of the article (social media links, related articles) their style can change but those elements need to stay
Be bold! My site was pretty innovative back in 2013-14. Now it's outdated. Ultimately, whatever makes people stick around and enjoy reading more content is good. So feel free to think outside the box.
