Acres U.S.A. got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Homepage redesign for organic publisher
Check out Acres U.S.A.'s Web page design contest…
Publish a monthly magazine on commercial-scale organic and sustainable farming; publish and sell books on organic farming; and organize a conference and educational events aimed at teaching farmers how to produce without dirty technology (pesticides, herbicides, GMOs). We sell internationally, but most customers are in North America.
None specifically. We need to freshen our landing page while tying in to the existing site's look/feel/color scheme. The challenge is straddling the fence between a dated site and modern design to give us something appropriate and functional that will hold us for the next several months until we can do a more proper and complete redesign.
Wanted -- a new home page for our existing site to introduce our company and direct visitors to the major sections of our site, www.acresusa.com. We are planning a major retooling of our site, but it's complicated by decisions related to content management systems, digital editions, etc. Rather than limp along with our trusty old site (yes, it's old), we'd like to in essence to add a new front door to the old house -- add a signpost to direct people to five major sections and services. We will retain the header, footer and left margin from the "Magazine" section of our current site (image file for comping attached). Using the "content" area remaining, we want to call attention to our various sections: 1. Magazine -- will want to display the current issue's cover and direct people in to the current issue page which is now serving as our home page. Text to read: This Month's Issue . . . Take a peek at what subscribers are now reading. Also want subscribe button (text = Subscribe Now). 2. Events -- want to feature our current annual conference. Text to read: 2011 Acres U.S.A. Conference Columbus, Ohio Building Resilience on Your Farm Through Eco-Farming Plan now to attend -- details here. 3. Free sample copy/catalog -- Invitation to request a free sample copy of our magazine and our book catalog (a smallish graphic calling attention to this offer). Covers of the current sample edition and current book catalog are attached. It is not essential to picture these items; they're supplied if desired for your design. 4. Books -- featuring one book cover or a new title and copy directing people into the biggest bookstore solely devoted to eco-farming books and information. Text to read: New from Acres U.S.A. [cover of featured book] [featured book title] Ranching Full-Time on 3 Hours a Day Plus 100s of hard-to-find books & DVDs, many only available from Acres U.S.A. Shop now! 5. Lectures -- Smaller, minor mention of the lectures we sell on tape, CD, MP3 (we're changing the "tapes" tab to read "lectures"). Text to read: Recorded Lectures from Eco-Ag's Best Tap into the wisdom of hundreds of the leading farmers, consultants and scientists. Amazing knowledge. Browse our collection. ------------------------------ So instead of landing on the Magazine subsection of our site as our home page as it does now, we'll have a home page which directs/entices people into the major sections of our website. Think of it as a signpost, an entrance ramp, or a new front door for an old house. Also, we have an account for stock photography with www.thinkstockphotos.com. Feel free to use images from this source for comping, if needed.
We'd like to receive a layered Photoshop document of the design from which we can extract any graphics/buttons you create.
