Charlie Holbech got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Help Visual Revenue Inc with a new website design

Visual Revenue is a SAAS (Software as a Service) solution and provides real-time recommendations to Online Editors on what content to place where on their homepage and for how long. Users login to a dashboard rather like that of Google Analytics, Chartbeat, Omniture and the like. We're a B2B (Business to Business) service and have customers like Forbes, New York Daily News, People.com and the like. We're looking to update our website and present a fresh and modern look as we head into 2012.
Whilst we are primarily B2B in our approach, we'd actually like to go with a little more of a B2C look - generally a feeling of professionalism, experience and cleanliness need to come through - the product is an enterprise product and is priced accordingly, so that must be taken into consideration when designing. These are some examples of websites we like: http://mobify.com/ http://chartbeat.com/ https://squareup.com/square http://Reuters.com (for the footer and the way they use the social networking icons and links in particular)
Thanks in advance for the interest in this project, we appreciate you taking the time to read through our brief. OVERVIEW Essentially we are looking for 4 pages to be designed. There must be a connect between all five and consistent functionality between all five. One page may serve multiple purposes and we will call that out where necessary. The site is all marketing and we are looking for a modern, clean and easy to navigate environment (big fans of mobify.com). We are going to be purposefully light on content. We are looking to have this designed for screen resolutions of 1024 x 768 at the minimum, but the site must be expandable to fit bigger screen resolutions specifically 1280 x 1024. This should only be the background element though and not any of fixed items. Essentially what we currently do today on our site. Header and Footer remain constant throughout. Customer Login/Site Search throughout. DESIGN REQUIREMENTS HOMEPAGE - Marketing, marketing, marketing :) Element wise it is very similar to what we have on our homepage today, but with a serious revamp! Elements we must include: - Customer Login - Search Box - We like the idea of a carousel, but are open to suggestions if you can identify a better way to deliver the message. We want imaging, something that is focused on online media and publications/newsroom and the like - Marketing messaging (this we'll change but feel free to use anything you'd like as a place holder) - Call to action - Drive to Product page (Learn More etc etc) - Logos of existing customers - Customer Quotes/References - Last Tweet & Blog Post - Footer with navigation links + a list of our social networks. Footer of Reuters.com is close to what we're looking for, but a stripped down version of that. PRODUCT PAGE We like the mobify.com approach on their product page however we dislike the disconnect between the lefthand navigation and the content the reader is looking at. We only want 3 sub navs these are: - Overview - How it works - Technology We are not sure this navigation should be on the left so do have a look incorporating this above or somehow embedded in the content part of the page. The left hand side should be dedicated to, first and foremost a request for a demo/sign up/further information (choose one we'll work out the exact heading later) and you can use the existing form on visualrevenue.com for the fields we want to include. This is the call to action and we want this to stand out (think of this as the sale). We should also have a location for the visitor to sign up for the newsletter. This format will also be used for the About us section and Each of the subsections will be listed here. Again we're not sure navigation should be on the left but want it to feel connected and easy to use. [The Company] this will become the About Us page The Team Our Customers Jobs In the News BLOG The blog is a very important part of the site for us. We want a clean look, have access to all of the archives; though we should only show the last 12 months with the remaining years being expanded upon user interaction. We want icons for all social media channels (as per the footer) visitors prominently displayed above the fold. N.b. This module (containing the social media channels) should be able to be utilized for the About Author, Similar Posts that ar found on the post page themselves. So please think about it being a somewhat diverse module with a number of uses. STANDARD PAGE This is a standard page that we'd use for Contact Us page and similar. All standard elements apply and in this case we would like to pull in the use of the Social Media module - i.e. whatever you end up designing for the blog page. Please include a newsletter signup module on this page as well.
Font's - we particularly like the fonts used on https://squareup.com/square Our color palette: Grey: #47484a Blue: #1c1a88 Orange: #ffa340 (use sparingly) White: ffffff Any other colors that complement this set You can find hi-res versions of our logos here: http://visualrevenue.com/high-resolution-images It should be noted we also do use the Grey (47484a) background for the white logo too - feel free to change the blue background to grey if you wish. Again, whilst we want a B2C feel, we don't want to move to far towards being completely B2C - the product is an enterprise product and is priced accordingly, so that must be taken into consideration when designing.
