Games & Recreational
This is a video game (eSports) tournament series which will feature various competitive game titles.
Dark backgrounds, light text, colors used should depend on which logo you decide to use (see below). Definitely lots of graphics, stylish, abstract edges.
-Homepage- this is entirely up to you, we also need a generic page to display textual information, but I don't consider that a separate page. At the top of the page there should be somewhere to display the # of registered players for each of the games we are hosting (currently League of Legends, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Project M, and Smash Bros. 4), and probably a total number of registrants as well - underneath the number of players there will be a dollar amount which represents the prize pool for that game, this will change depending on how many people are signed up. The actual content of the page is up to you - all of the pages we are going to have are: Home, Register, Venue, Schedule, Streams, Bracket, Volunteer, FAQ, About, Participants, and Contact (not necessarily in that order). I'm not entirely sure what content to put on the main page, there are no photos yet since this is the first tournament we are holding in the circuit. I'm very open to suggestions on that front. We need to display the tournament name (Paragon Orlando 2015), the date (January 17-18), the location (Rosen Plaza Hotel International Drive), and possibly a countdown timer to when early registration ends at the top of every page. The logo should also be featured on every page (see below for ZIP containing vector logos). We also need to list our sponsors' logos somewhere, either on the main page or in the footer of each page - the current sponsors are Microsoft, Red Bull, GameStop, Twitch, and Energems -Participants- When you click on the # of players at the top of the page it will take you to a page that displays a map of the US with various states highlighted with a different color depending on how many players have registered in that state, then when you hover over a state it will list the top 5 players from that state that have registered. Underneath the map there should be a table that contains a list of all of the players that have registered (our coder will do this part, of course) - when you click a state on the map it will list only players from that state underneath, and change the map above to highlight the state you have clicked. There also needs to be a search box for people to search for a specific player. I would like the map to have a 3D effect similar to this: http://www.3dmodelstock.com/file/2014/08/USA_map_05.jpg -Bracket- We need a creative way to display the tournament brackets and pools (this is how our competitor does it: http://evo2014.s3.amazonaws.com/brackets/ssbm_a85.html but there has to be a better way). These brackets will be updated live during the tournament. When you click a player name on the above 'Players' page it is going to display the bracket that they are in and highlight their name. Note that there is an initial bracket, called a "Pool" and when they make it out of that pool they will enter a "Semi Finals" bracket and then will enter a "Finals" bracket if they make it out of that. Also once a match has finished in the bracket, if there is a video of the match available there needs to be a button next to the match that you can click to take you to youtube (or open a youtube lightbox). -Register- This isn't completely necessary since we only paid for 3 pages but I think it should be simple enough to make a page with a stylized form to collect peoples' information and submit their payment (via credit card or paypal). The fields on this form are not yet determined.
What to avoid
I'd rather not use drop down menus, other than that I can't think of anything not to use.
There are a lot of different color options for the logo, choose whichever one you think looks best - the Teal one is my personal favorite, but if you think another color looks better please do not hesitate to use it. The colors of the site should be centered around which color logo is chosen.
