Entertainment & The Arts
Pure Piaf is a one-woman cabaret show that tells, in first person, the story of the famous WWII era French singer, Edith Piaf, and weaves her most famous songs throughout the story-telling. The piece is a theatrical tour-de-force aimed at 1) Piaf fans, 2) theatre fans, 3) fans of music from the era, 4) Francophiles, and 5) anyone interested in the arts and cultural events. The show will tour nationally and internationally.
What's your vision?
I need a poster made up of an image that simply and clearly identifies the show (and can be used either in or outside of the poster format). The poster will include the show's title (Pure Piaf: The Life and Music of Edith Piaf)...with the Pure Piaf portion being more important than the rest, and have a clear area that any booking venue/organization can use to add the specific event details. I would also like to include 'starring Britta Laree' in the design, but want it to be something that could easily be removed if need be. Same with the web site for the show: www.purepiaf.com I want this image/poster to capture the essence of Piaf and WWII era France in a simple, striking, non-obvious way. I'd like to use photos of myself AS Piaf as the basis for artwork, but don't necessarily want the finished product to look like a photograph. A theatrical producer who has been known for having striking, simple yet unmistakably memorable show images is Cameron Mackintosh, and you'll see this by looking for main images for shows such as Oliver, Miss Saigon, Les Miserable, The Phantom of the Opera, Cats, etc.
You can get a really good idea of the general feel of Piaf herself by searching Google Images for 'Edith Piaf'. There are some album covers that come up in this search that have a decent look, but I don't want to copy anything. There are also several caricatures that come up...I don't want to go with the silly/unattractive look like these caricatures tend to bring out. I want to focus on the romance and the drama of the woman in her more glamorous days, with that feel of the WWII era Paris. But beyond that, I'm really pretty open as to what I'd like, and am just excited to see what YOU may come up with! I've attached one piece of artwork someone did of a famous portrait of her that I like. I've also attached several pictures of me as Edith Piaf for the show that can be used as a baseline. I'd like the image to resemble me in the style of Edith, rather than being an image based on her actual personage.
