Community & Non-Profit
We provide holistic support for children and their families living in poverty. In addition to paying for the children's education we also provide a range of support services for families. One of these services, within the Economic Development Department, are workshops to enable parents to make and sell handicrafts
What's your vision?
We run three workshops with the mothers; knitting, sewing and jewelry making. There is information about this project, along with photos on our website: http://www.skipperu.org/en/skipshop We are about to launch a new website with an improved sales page and a new line of products. We are also hoping to solidify a partnership with a fair trade seller in the US who will help to sell our products and will donate the profits to SKIP. We do currently have small tags that we put on the products which are made from cardboard and have a little bit of information about the charity and a photo. We want to design something more professional and more appropriate for sales in a store in the US, rather than the little beach town restaurant where we are currently selling in Peru. At the moment, we would envisage something like a business card size tag which would be double sided. We feel it is important to have information about the charity on the tag so people can connect with the work that we are doing and understand where their money is going. The mothers are paid a fair wage for their work, this should also be mentioned. Overall we would like to create a sense of branding. As you can see from the logo and website - SKIP colours are blue so we would expect to see that somewhere on the tag for sure. I'm uploading our latest leaflet so that you can read a basic overview of the charity which will help give an idea of who we are and what we are achieving. As an organization I'd say we're also lighthearted and fun - I don't know if that sounds like a ridiculous thing to say but I'd love it if there was a way to transmit that message as well. I know that our work is emotive and serious but we take a lot of joy in what we do. I'm attaching a pic of a smiling child so we remember what that is all about haha I supposed linked to that - it is really important that our project is about empowerment. The people we work with are not victims, they are inspirational people who, despite many hardships and challenges, have not given up and are working really hard to make a better future for themselves. Just to mention it - the last two pics were actually taken by young people in the programme during a photography project we ran. Lastly - this is a bit of an extra, but we're also struggling to think of what to attach the tags with - any ideas on that would also be appreciated. We were using brown string because we wanted it to look rustic but in the end it just looks a bit cheap
I hope this description is useful - I have to confess that I've never done anything like this before and so I hope that I have been able to give information which is useful in developing ideas and please let me know if there is anything I could better explain or expand on.
