What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
We would like you to design an Edwardian style poster for a one man show based on the famous working class novel 'The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists'. The show will be told using magic, magic lantern, live music, acting & puppetry. We would like the text and the poster to have the feel of Edwardian England (see example) and the poster should have elements of Edwardian entertainment as well as a serious side, I have provided two images. I have played with the idea of Neil Gore (main image) looking through the magic lantern slide (you'll see what I mean in examples provided). I've also added another image of Neil Gore which could be used.
OUTLINE OF THE STORY
The story follows the painters and decorators as they renovate ‘The Cave’, a three-storey town house, for Mayor Sweater. It traces their hardships and struggles for survival in a complacent and stagnating Edwardian England. These workers are the ‘philanthropists’ who throw themselves into back-breaking work for poverty wages in order to generate profit for their masters. They are joined by artist Owen, whose spirited attacks on the dishonesty of Capitalism along with his Socialist vision, highlights the exploitation in their workplace but also focuses on the inequality in society as a whole.
