What's your vision?
We are in need of a poster for a new short film entitled, 'BANDITO'. The film is coming-of-age epic drama, set against the highway heist of a semi-truck. The poster should look studio professional, engaging, unique, and cohesive. The audience is all film-goers and festival programers. Size: 27" x 40" My team and I have a specific idea in mind, but are open to others. Feel free to communicate with me, to discuss another idea, or ask for additional elements. OUR IDEA: We currently have an image of the the inciting incident of the film that lends itself well to a poster. It is of two boys standing at a ridge looking at a semi truck (which they will later rob). We would like to feature that image on our poster THROUGH the transparent lettering of a title. See examples here: http://www.beyondhollywood.com/uploads/2010/07/stone-movie-poster.jpg http://scifimafia.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/RED-Movie-Intl-Quad.jpg http://i.bollywoodmantra.com/albums/first-look/sixteen/sixteen-movie-poster_607635.jpg http://www.soundonsight.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/tumblr_mcire1KV0i1qzdglao1_500.jpg How exactly it's done, is up to the designer. If that concept doesn't fit well with your tools or style, other avenues and ideas are not closed off. The image could be seen through the title as we propose, or the title can be separate, and a different shape could be transparent through which we'd see the image. Or you can choose to ignore the transparent element all together, and work off the poster sized image we already have. What I suggest most to include, is the top layer of the image, on which we would like to include items from the film, as if this poster is living within the world of the film. For example, in one corner, perhaps the trigger guard of a rifle is on the poster. In another corner, a folded road map. Dirt, coffee stains, grease stains, etc. are all excellent additions. More info on the world below. Here are items we are open to including on the top layer (You do not need to include all!). Reference photos are included in the brief. All of these items are featured in the film, some more than others. 1. Baseball cards (not heavily featured, more in the background) 2. Compass (not heavily featured) 3. Road Map (not heavily featured) 4. Rifle Ammo (featured) 5. A rifle (the trigger, or the action, or some part) (featured) 6. Hemp rope (featured) 7. Old styled canteen (not heavily featured) 8. Black bandana (featured) 9.Gold knife (featured) 10. Radio (Walkie Talkie) (featured) 11. Red flare (featured) OVERALL TONE/SETTING: The film centers around a group of 'lost boys', so to speak, who live in rural America, living and operating out of a mechanic shop. Their world is dirty, greasy, and dusty. This is a crime film, and fairly gritty. That should be communicated through the poster. At the same time, the main character of the film is a 14 year old boy, so it can be a mix of innocent items in a harsh environment. STORY: The film begins with this young boy eager to accompany the older boys on a heist. He is not allowed to because of his age, but sneaks out anyway, and meets up with them at the heist where he will discover his true moral fortitude in a way he never expected. Genres: Action-Adventure, Coming of Age, Epic, Crime, Gritty INCLUDED FILES: 1. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune background. Notice how the items 'live' in that world. This style should be our top layer, with our items. 2. Two files of our 'boys at ridge' poster size image. 3. The raw components of that image. (Jamie is the young boy. Scotty is the older boy. The image labeled 'Jamie' is the pose we like for the young boy. 'Scotty' is the pose we like for the older boy. 4. Photos or stills of our items (radio, flare, etc.) to be included in the top layer of the poster. These are for REFERENCE ONLY, not stills to be copied exactly into the design. 5. Scenes of the setting for context. 6. An older poster for reference. This is the quality/detail we are expecting. (made by an artist here on 99) This will be my 3rd contest here on 99, and I am looking forward to collaborate again with the many talented designers that are on here.
The only text on the photo should be the title 'BANDITO'. My team and I will be adding in the film credits/logos at the bottom of the poster. We would also like the flexibility to add festival information, screening information, use image as post-card, invitation, etc. Therefore we request a layered file that we can then use to suit other needs and sizes.
