Games & Recreational
We develop mobile games for Android and iOS. This brief is about a specific part of one of our existing games: Real Einstein's Riddle.
What's your vision?
We have released a game called Real Einstein's Riddle back in dec/2013. It’s a logic game that has a small but passionate fan base. Game URL: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rottzgames.logic Originally the game was created with basic/crude graphics ("programmer design") and stayed like that for over 1 year. People liked the game despite the bad graphics. The game relies heavily on icons, and we grabbed online free icons to use in the game. The icons were OK, the main problem was that we used several different icon sets with different drawing styles, so the icons were a mess (clearly not drawn by the same person/style). On the past months we worked on redesigning the game with a professional and finally released it 2 weeks ago, and the overall design improved a lot, but the main complain is that the new "minimalistic" style for the icons eliminated many details that helped the players to quickly spot the location of the icons (on harder games there are hundreds of icons on the screen). The game has had in its 14-month history around 200 bad reviews: in 13 months we received 100 bad reviews, and the other 100 were on the last 2 weeks alone after this icon change, so the icons are really important to our players (we overlooked its importance when redesigning the icons a couple months ago). With this contest we aim to re-redesign all the icons, using a clear icon set design that works well for both small-sized screens (low details) and bigger screens. The icons must follow the old (v1) design, but with a facelift and standardized design. After some discussion, we have changed the contest briefing, and we are only asking for 45 icons, and then you will work with us with the same per-icon price on a 1-to-1 project for the remaining icons (USD 10 per icon). The total amount of icons that will be needed is 153: 17 categories with 9 icons each. But for the contest we are asking for only 45 icons: 5 categories with 9 icons each. The 5 selected categories are: 1) DRINK 2) EAT 3) PET 4) CASH 5) WEATHER For the initial contest phase (qualifying) please only submit 2 icons of each of the 5 selected categories. The 2 icons of each category are marked on the updated attached spreadsheet, but just to be clear the icons are: 1) DRINK: Coffe and Lime Juice 2) EAT: Banana and Cheese 3) PET: Rabbit and Rat 4) CASH: Penny (1c) and One-Dollar Bill 5) WEATHER: Sun and Rain It’s up to you if it’s vector or raster, as long as it’s at least 80 x 80 pixels. We are changing the background that you see on the screenshots to a lighter background (light yellow or something), so make sure the icons contrast well with a light background (and/or put a border on them to guarantee a good contrast). Use the original icons (v1) as the main inspirational base and put your personal drawing style on it. But remember to to make it easy for the players to quickly spot the element without doubts.
Check the attached ZIP containing: - an excel sheet with the full icons list names, the selected categories and the icons needed for the qualifying round - and the actual icons (both "old" v1 icons and newer v2 icons). I will of course need the PSDs (or Gimp) and fonts if you use any (they must be free), so I can edit it later if needed.
