I'd like a movie poster designed for our upcoming short film 'The Dead And The Damned,' a supernatural action thriller in the vein of The Bourne Identity meets The Exorcist.
Along with the short, the poster will be used to help sell the feature film and TV series concept. It needs to be bold, eye catching, and convey the menace that pervades the piece...I'd like something clean, stark and striking like in the example posters provided.
The sketch provided shows the basic concept for the poster: A lone soldier, his back to us, his head bowed in mourning. A weapon in one bloodied hand. His shadow stretches up a wall before him. But the shadow is not that of a man. It is the shape of an ancient Sumerian/Babylonian demon or god. The demon grins down malevolently at our mournful soldier.
Please note; I have provided reference materials, but I don't want them used in the design due to copyright. Apologies for stating the obvious but it's been an issue...
Please note, this is more of a detective thriller, NOT a zombie war film.
About the show/film...
When Captain Merric Stockwell returns from Afghanistan he's a broken man. One of only three survivors of a brutal engagement in the mountainous and forgotten Nangarhar province, he struggles to remember the tragic events of that fateful day, troubled by the inconsistencies in the official government account, and plagued by terrifying demonic visions of events he can't be sure of.
Esmerelda Blake is a journalist at the top of her game. She prides herself on two things; her journalistic integrity, and delivering front page headlines. The integrity is legitimate, but it pales beside her burning ambition. When Esmerelda gets wind of a cover up by the British Government involving the killing of four Afghan civilians, she knows that she will have to move quickly to sidestep the government's attempts to stonewall her. But she does so at her own peril, risking the exposure of personal secrets that could ruin lives as well as careers.
Back in London, Stockwell's life is falling apart. Riven with guilt over the deaths of his men and tormented by the ongoing hallucinations, he suddenly finds himself at the centre of a murder investigation when the surviving members of his unit begin to die gruesomely.
This brings Detective Inspector Alexandra Granger into the fray. In a twenty year career, the murders of Stockwell's men are the most brutal she's ever seen. For a London cop, that's saying something. Granger is confounded by the senseless, inhuman nature of the gruesome slayings. The only thing that ties them together is the military background of the victims; both soldiers, both survivors of the massacre at Nangarhar. As Granger digs, unsettling parallels between the case and her own troubled personal life begin to emerge.
Determined to discover the truth behind Nangarhar, Stockwell finds himself implicated in the murders and on the run from the law, and must pit his skills as a soldier against shadowy government operatives who would rather see him dead than uncover the truth.
As Stockwell wades deeper into the mystery of his comrades murders, and the events behind the massacre at Nangarhar, he learns that his terrifying visions are more than just hallucinations, and that the horrors of war are as nothing, compared to the ancient evil that has followed him home from Afghanistan; a supernatural malevolence that has lain dormant for millennia, hidden in the crawl spaces between this world, and the next. It is this malevolence that Stockwell believes is responsible for the murders of his men.
Soldier, journalist and detective; three people whose paths should never have crossed, are thrown into a psycho-supernatural nightmare that will see them fighting for their lives against the dark superstition of a forgotten age, the British Government, and of course, each other.
But the question will become increasingly persistent as the series unfolds; are our protagonists battling the malevolent supernatural forces of ancient myth, or the psychotic delusions of a broken soldier, teetering on the precipice of losing his mind...
