We're looking for an image to use on the cover of "Chef Knut Meg - There's Knuttin' to It," to be published in December 2013. In addition to the prize for this design, we'll give the artist credit on the back cover and on the copyright page! This story was written by Karin Hammler, a Literacy Coach and Elementary school teacher, and is intended as a literacy guide for teachers and parents. And kids will love it too! The story is about a Chef that 'rescues' a school that has lost its sense of fun and with it, a love for learning. Chef is a bit of a 'Knut', but she really knows how to inspire teachers and students! She uses cooking imagery and humor to get the fictitious Orange Peel Elementary back on track. For the cover image, we have something specific in mind, so we'll 'draw' you the picture that we're thinking of. First, think very bright colors! You don't have to worry about the title or the credits, we'll take your image, place it on a complimentary background color, and take care of the credits. Chef drives a bright candy apple red Volkswagen and so we'd like to capture the scene of her speeding off towards Orange Peel Elementary when she gets their distress call. We'd like for her to be hanging out the window with her right hand on the wheel and her left hand holding down her Pink and Green plaid Chef's hat. Out of the passenger window, we'd like an orange colored tabby, holding a spatula (this is a character in the book named Sir Spatula.). Chef should have seven fireflies hovering somewhere above her head. In the distance, we need the silhouette of an Elementary School at the top of a hill, with a marquee that reads, Orange Peel Elementary School. Lastly, is it possible to get a turtle, hanging onto the back of the vehicle by his front two feet? Got all that? We're not sure what Chef looks like other than what we've described, we'll let you decide what feel right and then we'll go from there, okay? We'll try to check in once a day to provide direction and feedback. We can't wait to see what you come up with!
