Entertainment & The Arts
We are working on an app for science lovers, the app will enable users to watch and comment videos about different science topics (astronomy, biology, physics, medicine, technology, engineering, genetic, anthropology, earth science etc.). The app has 3 main features (you will need to show as the main navigation elements): an FB style video feed of content (with an infinite scroll approach), a Science vocabulary with 'A word of the day' block a search feature and again an infinite scroll to discover the previous days 'Word of the day), a Community page where the user is able to search and navigate through the existing community and join one or to create his/her own one and then interact in this community with a FB style social feed (or a more editorial take on a chat/messaging interface).
The idea is to have an app with an educational aim but that keeps an edge, it is not boring, but at the same time can't be over the top, the target is made of science superfans 14 to 29 (60/70% male), the app should be perceived as a trustable and credible source of content but without going into the academic space. The current brand name of the app should be 'SCIENCE' and should appear at the top of each screen of the app. Dark tones are usually used for these kind of apps but this is not a requirement.
User starts from the main page of the app the content Feed. This is a an FB style page, it is editorially curated with video content updated regularly from us, videos can be liked and shared by users on other social media platforms and can be commented (with text), there should be a visual way to recognise what type of content echo video post belongs to (astronomy, biology, physics, medicine, technology, engineering, genetic, anthropology, earth science etc), one way can be color coding, but you can come up with your ideas on this. we will need for this page a long screen showcasing the infinite scroll feature of it. This page as the others has a classic hamburger menu (not necessari to show it apart from the icon and a menu/tab section to access the other 2 main sections of the app (you can opt for an Instagram old version style tab menu on the bottom of the screen with the feed at the center and the other 2 main pages on the 2 sides or opt for another solution). Second page of the app is the Science vocabulary, it keeps all the UI element of the main feed page but in this case the content we shaw is a box with a word of the day and a definition a search box (to allow users to easily search other science words) and an infinite scroll with boxes with the previous words of the day, also in this case we need a long page to showcase the vertical swipe function. Also in the vocabulary the user should have a clear visual idea of which branch of science the words belong to (astronomy, biology, physics, medicine, technology, engineering, genetic, anthropology, earth science etc). Third page is about community and the ability for users to join an existing community or create a new one, existing communities are organised by the same classification the different science topics (astronomy, biology, physics, medicine, technology, engineering, genetic, anthropology, earth science etc). User sees the community he/she has joined on top. Fourth screen of the app is the actual community page after the user enters it. this page is once again a feed of content and comments, in this case the look should be a sort of and mixture of a classic FB feed and a chat/messaging app, in this case the users can upload their own videos/images/articles in a form of a post, or they can simply write some textual updates they can comment on other people's posts and directly contact other members of the community. We also need an app icon (temporary), something very simple like an S (for science on a solid BG or gradient.
What to avoid
Please avoid deep space type of background for the app (it has been used a lot and it feels a bit dated).
