How ulrich.muench started their app design journey
What industry do you think your business is most related to?
Use an “old” Android- or iOS-device (rear device) with built in camera to record the scene behind a vehicle. Transmit this video wireless and instantaneously to Android- or iOS-device that will display that video simultaneously. Second device (front device) is located in front of the vehicle in the vicinity of the driver.
This will represent a free (no purchase of separate camera needed), ecological (reuse of “old” smartphone) and flexible (can be used with different vehicles/ trailers/ RV) way to get a rear view camera in a vehicle.
What do you have in mind for the style and theme of the app?
- Easy to setup, even for unexperienced smartphone-users
- Easy to handle, the least switches and buttons possible on the front page
- Good description what the app does and how to operate
- Nice to look at, not "to technical"
First screen: On the first screen I liked from the first round generally speaking two background layout ideas to give some emotions to the app: a blurred dynamic traffic image and a comic style background.
I find it important to have two easy to understand icons to choose wether the phone is used as a monitor or a camera.
For the main screen: the first phase of the project (that means: you!) changed my ideas about the icons on the main screen compared to the first briefing. So let's imagine your driving with a rearview camera with your car backwards. The important information from the camera (i.e. obstacles) appears on the screen on the side of the image or at the bottom of the image. So it was not the best idea to put a lot of icons on the side. Furthermore, directly on the main screen there should only be icons that could be used during driving (i.e. probably nobody will get in-app purchases during driving...). So, at the moment there is in my opinion only an "start recording" button on the main screen and a sort of "menu" symbol where all the rest (settings, in-app-purchases,...) is hidden. And please remember: on top there should also be some place for ads (in the basic version).
I added a new sketch (... v02; for reference I also left the first version) so hopefully you understand what I mean :-)
It would also be great to have an intuitive icon for the app like i.e. a rearview mirror or a camera/monitor combination.
