Hollywood Fringe needed a new magazine cover design and created a contest on 99designs.
A winner was selected from 127 designs submitted by 32 freelance designers.
The Hollywood Fringe Festival
We are the largest performing arts (theatre/dance/cabaret/etc) festival in the Western US. To date, we have presented over 600 shows and thousands of performances. We are an "open access" festival meaning anyone can participate. We attract experienced touring artists, local companies trying an experimental work and emerging artists honing their craft.
The original Fringe was presented in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1947; since them fringe festivals have sprung up all across the world. Here's more information on Fringes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fringe_festival

SPECIAL NOTE: Please bring your own illustration/take on the mascots. We aren't really interested in recycling the existing images.
Every year, we produce a printed guide of all the shows produced at our festival. This contest is centered around the GUIDE COVER IMAGE; the seminal representation of the 2013 festival.
Here are three guides of years past:

Generally, the cover image includes our mascots - "the freaks". The five main freaks are included on the cover of the 2012 Guide. The "look" of these freaks can be adapted to fit the your unique aesthetic so feel free to play into your comfort zone.
Dimensions of the guide cover are: 5.5" (width) x 8.5" (height)
For your reference, we have attached a pdf containing former adaptations of the freaks. You can also see examples in the links above.
The winner of this contest is immediately eligible for additional work finishing off the rest of the guide design. See below for more info.
The winner of this contest is eligible for an additional $1000 in pay to design the category headings (see the guide for examples) and a festival t-shirt (one-sided). We'd take one of the freaks designs on the cover and make it into the "button" - the pin fringe-goers sport as they see shows around Hollywood.
This is a very high profile position as the guide cover is used for almost all advertisement online and in print. The name of the winner will be included on every page of the festival website along with a link to their personal portfolio page. The winner will be tweeted, facebooked and included in a newsletter blast to thousands of subscribers.
Our team has lots of experience working with designers and we have in-house adobe suite experts, so we won't be constantly going to you for minor updates.
We are ready to answer your questions, so feel free to communicate at will.
Thanks for your interest and we look forward to your submissions!
