Entertainment & The Arts
We are the largest performing arts (theatre/dance/cabaret/etc) festival in the Western US. To date, we have presented over 1,300 shows and thousands of performances. We are an "open access" festival meaning anyone can participate. We attract experienced touring artists, local companies trying an experimental work and emerging artists honing their craft. The original fringe was presented in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1947; since them fringe festivals have sprung up all across the world. Here's more information on fringes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fringe_festival More info: http://www.hollywoodfringe.org http://www.facebook.com/hollywoodfringe http://www.twitter.com/hollywoodfringe http://www.flickr.com/photos/hollywoodfringe https://www.instagram.com/hollywoodfringe/
What's your vision?
SPECIAL DESIGN NOTES: Please bring an ORIGINAL illustration/take on the mascots. We aren't interested in recycling the existing images. Also, please incorporate the LOGO (attached) and the YEAR (2016) into the design. We are most interested in VECTOR drawings as these images will need to be scaled to fit various sizes. We'd also like each freak in the design to be on it's own LAYER so they can be used separately. Every year, we produce a printed guide of all the shows produced at our festival. This contest is centered around the GUIDE COVER IMAGE; the seminal representation of the 2016 festival. This guide cover will also be adapted into a BILLBOARD placed in key positions in Los Angeles, CA. Here are six guides of years past: http://www.hollywoodfringe.org/guide_2015 http://www.hollywoodfringe.org/guide_2014 http://www.hollywoodfringe.org/guide_2013 http://www.hollywoodfringe.org/guide_2012 http://www.hollywoodfringe.org/guide_2011 http://www.hollywoodfringe.org/guide_2010 Generally, the cover image includes our mascots - "the freaks". The five main freaks are included on the cover of the 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 Guides. The "look" of these freaks should be adapted to fit the your unique aesthetic so feel free to play into your comfort zone. Dimensions of the guide cover are: 5.5" (width) x 8.5" (height) For your reference, we have attached a pdf containing former adaptations of the freaks. You can also see examples in the links above. The winner of this contest is immediately eligible for additional work finishing off the rest of the guide design. See below for more info.
The winner of this contest is eligible for an additional $500 in pay to design the category headings for the various disciplines (see previous guides for examples in comedy, dance, theatre, etc) and the official Fringe Button - the pin fringe-goers sport as they see shows around Hollywood. The winner will also adapt the the design for a Hollywood Fringe billboards in Los Angeles. This is a very high profile position as the guide cover is used for almost all advertisement online and in print. The name of the winner will be included in the website along with a link to their personal portfolio page. The winner will be tweeted, facebooked and included in a newsletter blast to tens of thousands of subscribers. Our team has lots of experience working with designers and we have in-house adobe suite experts, so we won't be constantly going to you for minor updates. We are ready to answer your questions, so feel free to communicate at will. Also be sure to reference the notes above for ORIGINALITY, LOGO/DATE and VECTOR designs. Thanks for your interest and we look forward to your submissions!
