The Cuba Marine Research and Conservation Program (CMRC) is a marine conservation program based at The Ocean Foundation (http://www.oceanfdn.org), a non-profit organization in Washington, DC. The CMRC is a 15 old year effort to build strong scientific collaboration between Cuba and the United States; establish enduring, locally-supported marine research and conservation programs; contribute to major advances in the scientific understanding of Cuba’s natural resources; conserve Cuba’s marine ecosystems; and in the process, help build capacity for marine and coastal research in Cuba.
CMRC emphasizes the biological, cultural and geographic links between the U.S. and Cuba, one of our closest neighbors lies only 90 miles from Florida. Our work is based particularly in a marine context where ocean currents pay no heed to international maritime borders or embargoes. Larval fish, coral and lobsters and migratory sea turtles flow between our countries, depending on healthy habitats for survival.
Our target audience are our partners and colleagues (other US organizations that work in Cuba) as well as funders. The project is funded entirely by private foundation grants and individuals. We need to show that we are a professional organization and an authority when it comes to marine conservation in Cuba.
Most of the Program’s work is devoted to sea turtle and coral reef conservation. I need a new logo to reflect a change in the direction of the program. The logo would be used for a new website I am creating, business cards and email signatures.
