OK - here is an unusual assignment. MEND is the new name for my "retirement company". After a thirty year career I am retiring to a new two person office which is dedicated to managing personal investments, real estate, writing projects, and having a good time. The logo will be on the door of my new office - which is being built to resemble a very contemporary and deluxe fly fishing lodge - but not a rustic lodge - think "the Four Seasons of fishing lodges" - so the logo should be elegant and simple - a bit classic. I live in Oregon - so a good reference would also be to look at classic old Oregon outdoor brands - Pendleton, Columbia Sportswear. The logo will be used on the door of the office, on stationary,a website, and business cards - but since I will not market the company it will not be used in any other applications.
The name MEND refers to the action a fly fisherman takes when properly placing their fly - they delicately move the line through the air - "the mend" to get the fly exactly in the right position so a fish will bite it. One possible idea (though I am not married to it)....a line drawing of a fly fisherman - his line flying through the air - somehow integrated into the logo. Some kind of nod to the fact that "mend" refers to fly fishing would be appropriate. I am enclosing a couple photos that should not be perceived as specific design direction - but more for tonality. One photo shows a trout with a fly in it's mouth - the other shows a long cast that would ultimately be "mended".
