We were curious to see if everyone would get the reference(s) in american slang. Based on the designs so far, it is probably good that we explain.
KICKIN’ ADS is a play on words in american english slang in three ways:
1. “kicking ass” is a phrase that means to “beat someone up” (in a fight)
2. “kickin” can mean “good”, “cool”, “awesome”. So we write ads that are really good!
and the final and most important play - and where the logo probably comes from…
3. an “ass” is a (or related to) a “donkey” or “burro” and they “kick” (for whatever reason). So it’s a play on the fact that a donkey is a “kicking ass” because they are an ass that kicks a lot.
So for the logo - let’s give a little direction…
First, do a search on google for “kicking donkey”… and that will give you some direction.
Big, bold 3D letters.
Can implement a donkey / burro character, AND / OR the bottom of the hooves when they are “mid-kick”.
Now, we DO NOT NECESSARILY want a donkey in the logo, and we MAY NOT even want the hooves in the logo. This is up to you.
We know we want big bold 3D letters that say KICKIN ADS. The use of a donkey and / or hooves is up to you as a designer.
You take it from there.
Through design #44 and everything is still so "corporate". I've attached images to the brief. PLEASE USE THEM AS A GUIDE TO GIVE YOU DIRECTION, BUT DO NOT COPY THEM. We want original work only.
