Love Columbia comes alongside anyone who is struggling to meet their basic needs and guides them to stability in Columbia, Missouri. They don’t just address an immediate concern but work with each person to overcome the barriers they face and create a long term plan to improve their life. They do everything from providing crisis funds to get a family off the street to helping people learn to manage their money or find a better job. The truly unique thing about Love Columbia is that they involve the community in the work they do. They train volunteers to serve as life skills coaches and match donated resources with specific needs. At Love Columbia, no one who wants to work toward a better life is turned away. They help the people who literally have no one to help them find a path forward and bring hope into their lives. In short, they love the unloved and bring the community into the process. The marginalized find hope and the mainstream find meaning and the whole community is lifted up.
