West of Hell
I have written a trilogy of historical fiction/thriller/adventure novels that center around life in New York City from the mid 1870s to mid 1890s. The center of the story focuses on a handful of colorful characters: Thomas, a young millionaire who by night is a vigilante avenging the wrongs done against his family and friends; the Madame, a brothel owner for the upper class who is known for extorting secrets against her clients to get favors and gain power; and Esther, a young spy for the Madame who was taken in as a ward by a high society family. There are many others that also spice up the mix: the Madame's right hand man is a hitman, Thomas' father is English nobility, and the villain is an Irish, high-ranking member of Tammany Hall who controls most of New York's gangs. It's a story that centers on corruption, secrets, and vengeance, with alliances changing frequently and an endless amount of action. A page turner, extremely entertaining, and VERY true to the era it takes place in. If there were a few center symbols that might be fun to play with, I would suggest a Griswold (a type of pistol made by the Confederate Army during the Civil War), whiskey, a peregrine falcon, hand rolled cigarettes and/or cigars, or perhaps a bloodied dagger. One of the running jokes about New York during the later part of the 19th century was that it was worse than the Wild West - so that's the type of message I want to get across. The target audience I am aiming for includes adults, both women and men, that love major action-adventure stories with a dark side - there are moments when the book is lighthearted and others that make your jaw drop in horror. I am looking for a title logo in a font that's fitting for the time period. This would be used as the standard title style for all three books and the centerpiece for the book covers. It will also be the logo for West of Hell's online publication which will start over the summer. As a reference point, the bulk of this story takes place roughly twenty years after Gangs of New York, the feature film staring Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Martin Scorsese.
I'd like to explore the following colors:
