A new, small, organic farm, growing a diversity of vegetables, fruits, flowers, eggs and raising heritage breeds of cows, sheep & chickens on pasture. Owned and operated by Stephanie and her Dad, We aim to create healthy soils through the use of compost, cover cropping, grazing, and good management practices to create a truly active piece of land and healthy environment for all that inhabit it. We market to two local farmers' markets, an online customized ordering CSA, and restaurants. People love the high quality of produce and grassfed meat we provide, always commenting on flavor, color, beauty, and obvious care/pride we take in our farm and what we produce.
I was in design for a while, and really am drawn toward more of a craft style look. I love "process": the process of growing food, of eating good food, of marketing beautiful food and want my "marketing" package to reflect this. My market signs at the Farmers' Market I do with a wood burner. Customers seem to identify already with my handwriting, as versatile as it can be. I like the "homegrown" element, but in a classy, elegant sort of way. I've included some photos of my market display, wash shed structure on the farm, our "Certified Naturally Grown" sign (alternative grass roots program to the National Organic Program) examples of some of the heirloom veggies we grow, wood burned market signs, farm party, market table close-up, and the chalk board I use for selling our grassfed meat at the market and a self-portrait, invitation I drew for our annual "Festival at the Fork"... I want a logo that can encompass the local, hand-done, tasteful, artistic image I'm trying to convey for Sassafras Fork, that allows my personality to shine through. That's the benefit of small, local businesses...we want our customers to know us, to identify with us, and get a "feeling" when they are at the farm, purchasing produce from me at the market, opening their farm share for the week, emailing me, looking at our facebook page and future website...I like an eclectic style, but also like cohesion. I"m a believer in form & function! I love materials. I like woods (the beauty of the grain and different colors each species offers), and burlap, wood block prints, letterpress, sheep skins (we raise sheep and love the many colors and textures the wool provides), old floral prints, these little feathered birds I use on my market signage I found in a thrift shop, leaves--the intricate patterning of the veins (the Sassafras Tree has three different shapes to the leaves..I've thought about using one of these in a potential logo, but not attached to it!!), ...
