Seattle Neuropsychiatric Treatment Center (SeattleNTC) is committed to providing high quality, evidence-based therapies for depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder and related conditions that have not responded to first-line treatments such as medications and psychotherapy.
Our main treatment modalities are transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).
TMS uses short pulses of magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the area of the brain thought to control mood. These pulsed magnetic fields may have a positive effect on the brain's neurotransmitters levels. Treating depression with transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), may provide an alternative depression treatment for those who have not benefitted from prior antidepressant medication.
ECT is a procedure in which electric currents are passed through the brain, intentionally triggering a brief seizure. ECT seems to cause changes in brain chemistry that can quickly reverse symptoms of certain mental illnesses. ECT can provide rapid, significant improvements in severe symptoms of a number of mental health conditions. It may be an effective treatment in someone who is suicidal, for instance, or end an episode of severe mania. ECT may be a good treatment option when medications aren't tolerated or other forms of therapy haven't worked.
