Entertainment & The Arts
Choro Camp New England will be a week-long music camp for adults devoted to the Brazilian musical genre of "choro", also known as "chorinho." It will take place on the Smith College campus in Northampton, MA, a quintessential New England town.
I want the logo to capture the two cultures that will come together at Choro Camp New England: Brazil and New England. Choro has a long history, so one can find many examples online of the kinds of typefaces used on famous album covers, posters, etc. (I will attach examples to this proposal.) Personally, I associate choro with a sans serif font...perhaps with an art deco feel, though I am open to new approaches. Two very well known choro artists whose names might be used to search for ideas are Pixinguinha and Jacob do Bandolim. I imagine the font used for the words "New England" to be somewhat more formal...perhaps a serif or script font. I am open to a logo which uses text only, but if designers want to play with associated imagery, here are a few ideas...For choro, the instrumentation typically includes flute, bandolim, guitar (6 and 7 string) cavaquinho and pandeiro. I will upload images of each. Musical notation and fretboards (as of a guitar, bandolim or cavaquinho) could also be useful. Imagery associated with New England includes church steeples and maple leaves. Again, I'll upload examples. I'm including the logo of a sports team -- the New England Revolution -- as an example of two different fonts being used to convey very different moods or energies, as I imagine will be done to contrast "Choro Camp" with "New England." One last point...although this event is referred to as a "camp" it will take place on the campus of Smith College, so while college imagery would be welcome let's not use "woodsy" imagery one might associate with "camping."
