There is a lot of inspiration from Moulin Rouge (both the film and the real place) and the French Bohemian revolution in what I'm looking for. Incorporating the Green Fairy, as made famous by absinthe, would be great for a potential mascot. Also incorporating the famous red windmill of the Moulin Rouge itself may be a way to go. The idea is that this is timeless, that there's a real chutzpah and extravagance to this... a showmanship. I want to bring that old Hollywood flavor to this as well... forget the bland corporate look. Think big, think bold, think grand... maybe even a slight bit of going over the top could be good.
In fact, Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge, Australia, Gatsby) has this sense of grandness, and although he's not an influence on what I make, his sense of bravado and showmanship is something I'd like to incorporate as I take the branding to a new stage.
Really try to embrace that Bohemian spirit.
My old website http://www.bohemianindustries.net, tried to incorporate some of the more classical but plain design, going with a simple logo, but this isn't quite the direction I want to go, although some of the classical elements are there.
Finally, keep in mind that down the road I may need this to be animated in one way or another (like the Universal logo is before a movie for example). I don't know how you'd quite incorporate that idea, but it's something to maybe keep in mind. Feel free to use the logos of other film companies for your inspiration as well.
