The Swell Atelier
I am an individual craftsman, furniture maker and artist working in Red Hook, Brooklyn. I’m starting a company called The Swell Atelier. I work with a variety of media including wood, metal, stone, glass, lighting and oil paint. I strive to combine materials in unique and interesting ways to highlight the natural beauty of the material, while also adding an artistic, creative touch. My interests and passions are varied and include nature, travel, art, music and I like that to show in my work. In my commissioned pieces I try to incorporate personal details to remind my clients of what they love and care about, such as people, places, and memories. My main product line involves repurposing used wine barrels into liquor cabinets. I want my brand to represent well-crafted, handmade production with an artistic flare.
I’ve included a freehand sketch of a logo and I’d like the final design to resemble this. It includes a saw with the blade as a series of ocean waves. Since my main product is my fine craftsmanship and creativity, I want my logo to represent not a particular piece of furniture, but instead something that inspires me, and that is the ocean. It also ties to the location of my workshop, the coastal neighborhood of Red Hook, Brooklyn and the name of my company, The Swell Atelier. For this logo, feel free to use color, however I will eventually be purchasing an iron brand so that I can burn the logo into the furniture that I make, so in that case the color will be irrelevant and any extremely fine detail likely won’t translate well onto the iron brand. I’ve included pictures of some of my work, hopefully this will help give a sense of my style.
