Educate. Empower. Activate. (optional to include)
Community & Non-Profit
Imagine a world where youth, by and large, not only have ideas for making the world a better place, but are actively provided the knowledge and resources to implement them and make a difference. Imagine a country where parents and political leaders not only listen to youth, but work with them to drive forward meaningful lifestyle and policy changes. Imagine if every school board and city council in the United States reserved several seats at the table for youth to participate regularly in meetings and voice the concerns of their age group. In their localities, imagine if youth had the means to connect with each other to carry out environmental projects and share lessons learned. This is a world I want to live in, one where youth voices are highly valued in the democratic process and youth have the support they need to feel educated, empowered, and activated, especially in the climate space. A lot of good work is already happening, but I believe our society can do better for our youth. This online platform/one-stop-shop, Youth Climate Collaborative, aims to connect youth with other youth and organizations with existing environmental initiatives, and enable youth to start their own projects. It will provide young leaders the space to share their unique stories and inspire others. This platform will consist of several buckets: (1) A database of youth environmental organizations; (2) A database of financial resources accessible to youth; (3) A job pipeline with resources; (4) Opportunities for storytelling and sharing about one's own projects; (5) Social media engagement; (6) Emotional support resources (stress management training, etc.); (7) A networking space; (8) A mentorship program; (9) A youth climate policy coalition to engage with political and corporate leaders; and (10) Initiatives to challenge environmental education, outdoor policy, and more
I would like the logo to include colors from nature, like those in Northern Lights (purple, blue, green). The only caveat is that although I love blue and green, they are used heavily in the environmental non-profit space. If blue and green are used, that is fine, but a color that is unique/stands out should go with it. Another idea for color is using the warming stripes, but going from red to blue to indicate the earth is cooling, rather than blue to red, indicating rising temperatures. I'm excited to see what you all come up with and am very open to any ideas! The audience is anyone up to age 35. I have not set a lower bound to my definition of youth, but that could the range might be 12-35, rather than 3-35, for example. In addition, this platform is for youth in the US at the moment but I'd like to expand it to an international audience in a few years.
