I'm writing a novel (a thriller) and want to develop a deck of cards and an app that goes along with it. The target audience is anyone, but it should appeal most to 30-ish women readers.
What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
The plot of the novel and the cards/app rely on the opposite of the imaginary friends that children often have -- in this case, Imaginary Enemies. I want an illustration of a monster that personifies (one of) Laziness, Procrastination, or Distraction. The word (or initial capital letter) could feature in the design. The basic idea is that (for example) a reader would put the Laziness card somewhere they will see it every day, and it will trigger thoughts based on text in the novel. The Laziness Monster (for example, again) probably doesn't look lazy himself -- he looks devious and scary. His objective is to get you (the reader) to take the easy way or leave things undone or unfinished.
Choose 1 of Laziness, Procrastination, or Distraction, and make an illustration of a monster that represents that concept, to use in cards or an app. The role of "imaginary enemy" is to try to get people to fail, and the purpose of a visual reminder is to get people to fight back or resist.
To clarify: I am looking for 1 image for a card, you choose which of the three options (laziness, procrastination, or distraction) it might be. It doesn't need to be clear from the monster itself which it is, but some hint (like the letter L, for Laziness) as part of the design will be needed to tell the cards apart. My hope is to find one or more artists with this first card who I can work with to fill out the remaining cards as time goes on, to achieve a consistent feel, but for now please just concentrate on making a single monster, for a single card.
