We are seeking an illustrator to provide six small-to-medium-sized illustrations that will feature in a simple reproduction of the first chapter F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby.
The winning applicant will also be given the opportunity to take up a substantial amount of follow-up work for this project at our discretion.
Wildwood Tribune has divided the first chapter of the classic American novel into 6 parts or subsections (see the attached document).
We are looking for someone who knows and is familiar with the story to provide a single illustrations for each of these six parts (six illustrations in total).
For the purpose of this contest, please submit two (any two) of the six scenes described in the qualifying round. If your submissions are appropriate, we will ask to see follow up designs for the other four scenes.
Size: the illustrations should be about 250 x 350 pixels (in either portrait or landscape format) or smaller. However, images should also be clear enough so they will still be meaningful if shrunk or cropped to thumbnail or icon size.
Style and design: the picture can be either black and white or color but the style needs to capture the feel of the time and place of the story (upper-middle class New York state in the 1920s). We are looking for illustrations that reflect or pay homage to the book illustrations style of first half of the 20th century. We are open to degrees of modern interpretations and twists but images should clearly relate to the text and story. We are NOT looking for abstract adaptations or interpretations of the text.. Preference is for lighter shades and brushstrokes, in keeping with the generally lightweight mood of (most) of the novel and the mood of the 1920s.

- Section 2: Tom and Daisy Buchanan's East Egg mansion or a conspicuous part of it.
