Writer of gay comedic short story series
What's your vision?
The requirement is to illustrate two characters for a comedic gay short story series. They are both semi-professional drag queens - they only do drag occasionally. Dotty and DQ met when they were both on vacation in Greece one summer. They had rented beach chairs next to each other one afternoon and hit it off as soon as DQ (the tall more manly exotic looking pretty black one) started dancing in the water to a very loud I phone blaring Beyoncé’s ‘all the single ladies’. Dotty (the shorter, very cute, southern white one) joined DQ in the water and they have been pals ever since. This was 7 years ago! Both DQ and Dotty live in New York City. DQ lives in the heart of the most gay neighborhood in new york city. She plans her costumes well in advance of all her events and gets very creative. DQ is a jewelry designer in real life – a career he is very dedicated to. DQ loves spicy food and exotic travel. But what defines DQ is that he always knows every lyric to every pop song there ever was. When he is in drag you can definitely tell he is a MAN - but he puts a lot of effort into his costume and hair choices which makes his appearance very very funny. DQ always looks very funny in drag because of his crazy makeup! Dotty does not take her drag as seriously as DQ. Dotty is generally very drunk and loud and makes everyone laugh a lot. Dotty claims she was invented…brought on this earth to entertain the troops who serve our nation overseas. Dotty is cheap with her outfits and they are generally not very well put together which makes her appearance very funny and she always carries a drink on stage. Dotty's facial expressions are the funniest. Dotty is an advertising executive in real life and is very clean cut cute and masculine too. Dotty too spent a lot of time in Hawaii and loves it there. I’d like to see both dotty and DQ sketched together and separately. Let’s explore a few emotions and/or life situations…anything else you can think of....few details - 1. When they viewer sees both dotty and dq it should make them laugh - just like they do in real life - please be as emotional as possible - with a lot of attention to their facial expression 2. you can still tell that they are men when they are in drag - this should come through - so, for example, their waist can't be too petit. 3. Please design these images no larger than 250X250 (ideally at 1200 dpi).
If you'd like to familiarize yourself with who drag queens are please google and look up some images and links. Please see attached foto for inspiration with DQ. I've also attached another illustration of some funny drag queens for inspiration and for the kind of work I'm hoping for. Also, please be creative with illustration styles - I'm open to varied styles and want to see something refreshingly original (i'd like all illustrations to be cartoons) IMPORTANT: In terms of style and key words, we are looking for: - Lighthearted - Funny - Nothing too edgy or too realistic - Playful - Characters that are charming/cute, but also imperfect… making them all the more lovable. Thank you so much.
