Graphic illustrations to be placed into multi-book methodology – elegant, energetic, inspiring.

Beyond Borders is a nonprofit working mainly in Haiti. We work to prevent violence against women and girls, prevent child slavery, promote universal access to education and promote dignified livelihoods.

This contest is to create a unique set of two or more related graphic illustrations/ design elements that can be easily placed into a multi-book methodology by another designer, to promote interest and readability of text and decorate covers. The idea is to have at least one larger element for covers and places where there is a lot of space (end of a blank page, etc.) and another one or two for smaller spaces, like in the corners of a page, etc. The methodology is designed to promote the inclusion and power of women and girls with disabilities within their communities. The designed documents will be used by staff of organizations working on the project and engage community members of all genders, young and old, with and without disabilities. They should be generally appealing and not look too ‘gendered’. The audience will be primarily in Haiti and Africa, but need to have appeal beyond those regions as well. This design element can be graphic or illustrated. The graphic element(s) should be elegant, energetic and positive. Emotions we would like the design to provoke are: inspiring, hopeful, empowering and exciting. We will maintain the colors in the books shown at raisingvoices.org/sasatogether: brown, red, blue, gold/ orange, and purple. Note also the design element in that sample, as it is from another organization so cannot look the same, but we love the colorful graphic illustration/ design elements. Note: Colors will be altered for version in Haitian Creole.
