We are bootstrapping to establish a company that will retail simple consumer products that we have conceptualised/designed ourselves. The bags referred to in the brief below are our first product.
What's your vision?
Hello. Your creative help would be much appreciated. I am looking to have a set of the 26 letters of the English alphabet, uppercase, designed so that each letter can be punched out of materials like canvas or leather. Each such designed letter will eventually be turned into a metallic template like a cookie cutter. The letters are to be parts of a new genre of entertaining handbags for women and so need to be designed with women in mind. They need to be beautiful/stylish/artistic. They need to be 'serious/mature' as opposed to ,say, cartoonish/childish. Said handbags are actually an invention and the subject of pending patent applications. There is a good chance that the artist that delivers on this brief will be offered a set of said handbags for free or at a discount. If you are male - and not a cross dresser - whoever you give the handbags to might be very appreciative. The hollow letter shapes will be stitched on top of patterned textile material so that the resultant visible patterned textile will define the body/shape of each letter. Each letter is to be proportioned so it fits into a rectangular shape that measures 12cm long and 5.5cm high. The aim is for as much patterned textile as possible to be visible and that is why each letter needs to be designed to be as fat/wide as possible in said rectangular area. And as much as possible each letter should be conceptualised so that it extends towards each corner of said rectangular area. Victor Moscoso font - please see attachment - is an approximate indication of the kind of font we are after. The main drawback of such a font is that the top halves of the letters are too thin; we need letters that are fat/wide all over. Please do not let how rounded said Victor Moscoso font looks swath your approach to this brief. You, for instance, might prefer to give the extremities of each letter tapered shapes that end in a rounded angle to give the font that artistic flair. Or something like that. FORMAT Artwork in RGB mode, 150DPI Full Scale or 300 DPI Half Scale would be fine. The following formats are acceptable : JPEG , TIFF , AI , EPS, PDF , PSD , AVA. I have attached pictures of rough paper models of how two such letters on top of patterned textile might look. Letters that you create/conceptualise will likely be much better than my laywoman effort. Because the shapes are to be punched out of material certain letters will have to be conceptualised so that no parts of letters fall off when the material is held up. Said paper models are of two such letters; A & Q. Please use well thought out conceptualisation for all the letters; not just letters like A & Q that particularly need special attention. As stated earlier the 'punched out' letters will be stitched unto textile material and so it is important that irrespective of whatever cool conceptualisation is employed proportionally none of the letters's shapes can have parts that are so thin stitching becomes problematic. Apart from artists that might be calligraphers this project might also suit artists that love creating arrays of icons. I am bootstrapping on my own to get this business off the ground and wish I could offer more than a bronze package to have this brief completed. I plan to start retailing by year end or thereabout and think these bags will rock (One can dream; in this case a dream backed up with a plan). When the business commences if the bags do as well as I think they can I aim to approach the artist that handles this brief with the offer of acquiring a set of the bags that will feature what this brief is all about at a discounted price or for free (There is more to said bags than what can be gleaned from this brief).
