I am planning to publish a series of science fiction novels in the
near future and have written some associated short stories for
marketing purposes. What I need designed is ONE illustration for one
of those short stories (there will eventually be 3 for each story).
This illustration will appear as part of a free e-book and an A5
printed version of the short story.
The scene to be illustrated has 4 main elements.
1. Background. This scene occurs on a 'viewing platform' that has been
designed an illustrated in a previous contest. Please use elements
from this design, but feel free to add as much detail as you would
like. Important detail - door should be open, feel free to experiment
with what the inside of the ship looks like.
2. Armoured security officer standing in middle/rear of scene having
just shot the Lyquis farmer (see element 3 below). Armour should be
modelled similar to Halo armour (black skin-tight layer with sections
of armour covering limbs and torso), but not exactly the same. Armour
should be majority dark
blue in colour. Helmet should have a large faceplate that allows the
wearer's face to be seen (lights inside helmet). Armour should also
badged somewhere prominent with the attached logo (see reference
files). Weapon should be modelled on the Stampede design Nerf gun
reference files). Also majority dark blue in colour. The armour will
also have a defence system (possibly located on shoulders) capable of
shooting lasers that can take out projectiles. This is a key element
of the artwork and will be explained further in the book exert below.
3. Lyquis farmer. This character was also designed and illustrated in
the previous contest. Please use this design as reference (see
reference file) but feel free to add as much detail as you'd like. As
described in the story exert below, the farmer has just been shot and
is wildly shooting his 'scatter gun' (he's just rolled over after
being thrown to the ground). Please also model the gun on the
illustration. Making this scene look dynamic will be the key to
4. The farmer's 'scatter gun' is spraying 'explosive drillets' across
the scene. Some of these should be hitting the walls and floor, and
in various stages of explosion. Some small craters should already be
apparent. Some should also be in the process of being shot out of the
air by the officer's laser defence system.
I will attach all the relevant reference files and a basic mock up of
the scene, but how you pose and detail the scene is up to you.
The book exert that describes this scene is as follows:
“Eat shit!” he spat, before rolling toward the voice and lifting
the scatter gun.
As soon as he made his move, the Coalition soldier fired his weapon
and Zat felt a jolt as something pushed hard against his left side.
The round smashed straight through his torso armour and took a large
chunk of flesh out of his side as it slammed him back into the floor,
but it didn’t stop Zat from pulling the trigger.
As he was thrown backward, his scatter gun roared on full automatic,
spraying the monitoring platform in a wide arc with explosive-tipped
A blaze of laser lights appeared as the Coalition soldier’s
defensive grid went to work, burning any drillets from the air that
came within a metre of him, while those that weren’t destroyed hit
the walls and floor around him in a series of explosive sparks that
left small, blackened craters behind them.
