What's your vision?
Specs: 1. full cover, well layered psd for 8.5" x 5.5" book (CMYK, 300 dpi, 180 lpi) 2. ebook cover generated from psd: (RGB, min width 1600 px, 900ppi) Because this is a book cover, early sketches should include intended placement of title, author name, series name, and tagline to show the layout as a whole. Title: Falling Down Under Author: Errin Krystal Series: A Seven Sisters Vineyard Romance Tagline: Sometimes rock bottom is the best place to start. Title Treatment: Falling - scrawled in red above the rest of the title (almost like lipstick) Down Under - below this in a contrasting font The reader should understand looking at the title that "Down Under" is a reference to Australia Falling is a double entendre - the main character returns to Australia after falling from grace and then also falls in love there Cover concept: The scene is a romantic-but-down-to-earth restaurant with a vineyard in the background. Detail elements from the book include wine and cupcakes. (The male romantic interest is a chef who stress bakes.) A woman in an unreasonably fancy dress (gold sequins, barely-there straps) drags a suitcase behind her that is popping open with things falling out of it (heels, lipstick, etc.). A kangaroo lounges in front of the restaurant. [UPDATE 1: the kangaroo should be gray. Thanks!] [UPDATE 2: the wine and cupcakes are optional, not mandatory - only included for possible inspiration] The male lead could also be in the image but doesn't have to be. We're open to options here. The basic story is that a rich London socialite loses everything and has to fly back home to her grandparents' vineyard in Australia, where she rekindles a romance with the chef, who was a childhood sweetheart and her first love. They're extremely rocky at first, with a happily ever after ending. So we're looking for a solid romcom / chick lit feel. Reference images: 1. From Notting Hill is our top choice for overall illustration style, composition, and feel 2. Captured by Chocolate is our second choice for style and feel 3. BigFatFakeWedding is a reference ONLY for the title treatment - the fonts do NOT have to be these fonts - it's just to provide a general feel for the title treatment concept 4. The two people are character references for the leading male and female
We used a cover contest to launch our bestselling Tales of the Wendy series and hired that artist directly to create 3 more covers for the series with a fourth upcoming. We intend to do the same for this series. Once we find the right artist for the project, we will hire that artist directly for future covers to preserve the look and feel of the series for our readers. Good luck, and thank you for participating!
