Our targets would be anybody who might be interested posting opinions and voting on opinions. There will be facebook logins, and twitter functionality, so we are pretty much going after the same crowd. Probably mostly an adult crowd I'd guess. Sorry, we are currently working on our name and branding, help us get off the ground!
What's your vision?
I need a widget built. The widget has 4 elements: 2 buttons that allow you vote up or down (with selected states). A block of text (or whatever you come up with) showing total number of votes, something like "2,494 votes". Also, a block of text (or whatever) that shows when the opinion will expire. Note: not all opinions expire The buttons allow a user to agree / disagree with opinions that are posted by other users (please see current design). I would say a lot more but I don't want to influence the design process too much, as I'm hoping to expand on what possibilities there are. For example, in the current design, there are thumbs up, thumbs down icons. Before, I had these huge ugly red and green square buttons, which some people thought were cool, some people hated. Here are my requirements: Must contain all 4 elements laid out above. 2 buttons, votes and number, expiration. The buttons must have an obvious yes/no, agree/disagree, or upvote/downvote feel to them, without stating so in text. I've pretty much decided that the real estate available for the buttons will be placed on a horizontal area between the opinion text, and the image that illustrates the opinion. Not every opinion has an image, so these would have to look nice without it. The buttons should be large enough to be tapped but not so large that they take up too much real estate... after all, it's still mobile and there are other elements (see example attachment). I'd hope the design takes in consideration that these buttons are the main activity of the app and are really important. I hope for them to be fun, without looking too game-y, childlike etc. Mostly adults will be using this app, and the app will be used by a broad range of people, not just tech guys / gals. The expiration date text would most likely be a trivial that shows the date in a human readable way, like "expires in two days", "expires in 2 hours". Room for creativity: As long as the requirements are met, I think all of the elements I have laid out are sorta bland and could use something iconic. For example, somebody suggested to make the vote count appear as a ticker. I can give more information, just email me at firstname.lastname@example.org Thanks! and I look forward to seeing what you come up with!
If you have any questions please leave me an email. I don't want to influence the process too much, but I'm excited to give any other information needed. Thanks!
