Entertainment & The Arts
Among other things, I'm just a self-published writer trying to create sympathy for a fictional character from a movie that was made before I was even born. :)
What's your vision?
This is a character who I will use in multiple forms of media. For now, I'm calling her Eraserchild or Eraserbaby, as a tribute (or subversion) to David Lynch's Eraserhead. I always knew it distinctly unfair how people who watch the film were calling the child evil just because it was sick - even though it hurt nobody and was itself the victim of a deranged father. The movie made an eternal impression on my mind and I vowed to someday create a character in honour of that child. My plan is to self publish a book in the pov of a similar child (except more grown up) and then to try against all odds to make this character famous. I have backed five different Kickstarter video games and I am planning to insert my Eraserbaby into a few of them in order to reach as many people as possible. I feel an artistic as well as a moral responsibility to make people rethink the way they view David Lynch's masterpiece film. This is where you come in. I need the best, most bizarre, and most sympathetic Eraserchild you can draw. The following instructions are very important, so please follow all of them in order to maximize your chance to win the contest: 1. Even though this character is inspired by the child in Eraserhead, they are not the same character. Please don't make them too similar. My character is not a baby - she's a young lady who looks like she might be 17, 18, or 19. She is deformed because of pollution from a coal mine (combined with her mother's smoking) near the hospital she was born in. 2. Despite having an insanely deformed head, Eraserchild is a kind, sympathetic character. I don't want her eyes to be frightening and there is no need to make her seem evil. I want people who see her on the cover of a book or in other media to assume she is a good person, despite her deformities. 2. Eraserchild is extremely fragile and sickly, but she tries to live the healthiest lifestyle possible and she dresses with a sense of style (partly) to cover this up - it is very unlikely that anyone would ever call her a slob. This is true whether she's wearing a smart bowtie suit and bowler hat, or whether she's in elegant nightrobes/nightdresses. 3. Last but not least, Eraserchild is biracial and Mexican. Earlier I inferred that she was sickly pale looking, but I don't mean that she's white. She's half-Mestizo. Good luck!

I love Kim's style of illustrating people. It's the right blend of realism any serious writer would want for their characters. I can't imagine using a different illustrator for future projects.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
