Cancerquest got their new brochure by running a design contest:
CancerQuest Wants a Patient Friendly Brochure Design
Check out Cancerquest's Brochure contest…
CancerQuest, www.cancerquest.org, is a cancer education and outreach program at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. We provide reliable information to the general public about cancer biology and treatment. Our primary audience includes patients, caregivers, students, and teachers. We have text content, summaries of current cancer news, interviews with patients and researchers, animated graphics, flash games and diagrams, student curricula, 3D posters, and numerous videos aimed at cancer awareness and/or patient education about procedures. CancerQuest provides easy to digest information about cancer. We have authoritative content, reliable information, written by experts and vetted by medical professionals. Educate and empower.
What's your vision?
We are looking to design a brochure for CancerQuest. The brochure should encourage patients and the general public to use the website to get more information about cancer. We are not giving medical advice. We encourage patients to learn about their disease and its treatment. We want to facilitate informed conversations between patients and healthcare professionals. Our site provides patients with information about the biology of cancer, diagnosis, treatments, side effects, prevention, and more. We have interviews with cancer patients who describe what the process is like. We have videos and animations explaining how medical procedures work. We have interviews with family members and caretakers. We want to prepare patients for what they are going through. Empower them with knowledge. This brochure should be targeted to cancer PATIENTS, so it should be friendly, warm, inviting, informative, authoritative, and useful. The brochure will be distributed to thousands of cancer patients, caregivers, and family members at hospitals and events primarily in the US, but also around the world. The main goal for the brochure is to increase awareness of our website: to have people visit our website for more information and to share the site with their family, friends, and colleagues. We would also like for the brochure itself to have some utility for the patient -- so they have an incentive to keep it and share it with others. For example, our last brochure had a ruler along one edge. Feel free to come up with other ideas. Be creative. The brochure should highlight the materials, both text and media, that our site offers. See the Education Center (http://www.cancerquest.org/overview-education-center) for examples of our media. The dimensions of the brochure can be just about anything... larger than a business card, but smaller than a standard sheet of paper. We are open to both folded brochure designs and single flat sheet designs. All text should be in English. The brochure must incorporate our logo (attached), the Emory/Winship logo (attached), and our URL (www.CancerQuest.org). Please do not include our address or phone number. Prompts to follow us on Twitter (www.twitter.com/CancerQuest), YouTube (www.youtube.com/CancerQuest), and Facebook (www.facebook.com/CancerQuest) are optional. The brochure should mention how to donate to us (www.CancerQuest.org/donate). Attached is an example of a donation graphic. This is an optional graphic. Please feel free to use another image, design a new graphic, or whatever fits best with your design. This graphic is optional. Telling people how to donate to us is not. Please visit our website, http://www.CancerQuest.org/, for more information about who we are and what we do.
This brochure will be distributed to patients who have recently found out that they have cancer. They are likely to be scared and confused. All colors, graphics, and word choices should consider sensitivity, comfort, and hopefulness.
