Tarbell is the first nonprofit, nonpartisan
and independent news organization for
people who want to build a fairer, healthier
and more equitable America.
Its founder is Wendell Potter, he's a journalist, activist and ruckus raiser (you should really Google him!)
Tarbell will be a nimble operation, designed to
advance dialogue and systemic change
across the United States.
Our reporting will reveal broken systems
and explain what people are doing to
respond, and how solutions can be found.
Tarbell’s guiding spirit is Ida Tarbell. Her
reporting helped break up one of the
biggest corporate conglomerates in
American History at the turn of the 20th
century. Ida’s reporting lead to change.
So will ours.
Tarbell is basically the journalistic response to Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump – we want to investigate* the corporations and special interests that skew our systems and make money off a very profitable status quo.
We also will practice solutions* journalism. Showcasing how people and organizations are fighting to make our system work better for everyone – in hopes that our readers can realize that our problems are not intractable.
Tarbell will succeed and grow with the
support of its readers. This fall, we will
launch our first major crowdfunding
campaign. Hundreds of friends have
already pledged to support our campaign
and thousands more have followed us on
social media and indicated their interest.
Through converting these fans into
donating members, we will build a
foundation for a sustainable, readersupported
Our funding model is based on several
successes around the world, most notably
in France, Germany and The Netherlands.
With Tarbell, the United States will join that
