UPDATE 3:55PM 1/30/18:
Hello Finalists! I have provided each of you with notes on your personal designs. In addition to those notes, I've been thinking about some ideas and drew up what I was trying to go for in the attachment section. This is a guide about two concepts that I'd like to see explored a bit more.
HOUSE: I didn't get much in the way of a house in the first round. There's something simple about a structure or a roofline. You could add nature or not, but it more about adding some kind of abstract line to give The Hygge Hus some structure (vs. a circle or square) and also help reader sound out "hus".
HEATHER FLOWER: My name is Heather and it's also a flower that is native to Scandinavia, so I really like using this as part of the name. One idea that I had is to use twigs to spell out an H and those twigs have small purple buds. This treatment could be used on the left side of The Hygge Hus, on top of The Hygge Hus or in some kind of shape.
If you can't read writing or have questions about the drawing, please let me know.
Logo needs to stand alone - just The Hygge Hus and also with Workshops & Retreats below. I will use these interchangeably based on where I'm using it.
I'd like to have a color pallette. I'm leaning towards the darker pinks/purples/greys of the heather.
Logo needs to work in color and then be able to transfer to black/white.
As part of design package, we will start working on business card/Facebook page once I select a few final concepts.
I didn't realize that we only had 3 days and selected winners yesterday knowing I wouldn't get to give feedback until today. I am going to make myself available tonight, most of tomorrow and all day Thursday. I am out of pocket tomorrow (Wed, 1/31) from 10am - 3pm.
Please don't hesitate to ask questions or send ideas/concepts over to me. This project is a high priority for me and I will provide timely feedback and will also narrow down top designs quickly so that I am respectful of everyone's time. Goal is to have final design and other elements completed by the end of the week.
UPDATE 3:38PM EST on 1/25: Looking for ORIGINAL CONCEPTS now vs. my drawings. I've explored these concepts enough and am now looking for original ideas. I've taken the drawings down, but a few notes that I think are important are:
- would like to see logo with and without "Workshops & Retreats"; logo needs to work with both.
- Option of using "Heather" as a sprig/flower in the logo (not a requirement, but like this nod to my name. It's also a flower/shrub that grows in Scandinavia.
NEW INFO****THIS LOGO WILL ULTIMATELY BE USED ON A SIGN AT A RETREAT CENTER, PRODUCTS AS WELL AS BUSINESS CARD, MARKETING, WEB, ETC. When you look at the logo, please make sure that it would look nice on a sign for retreat center (bed and breakfast feeling).
NEW NOTE AT 3:44PM EST ON 1/24. I just uploaded two drawings that I did for The Hygge Hus logo. This is something that I like, but am not tied to it. I'd just like to see what it would look like. I really like this lower case script concept and something simple with it -- circle, nest, bubbles, rosemary/heather sprig, etc. -- as an option. I don't want it to limit creativity, but want to share some of my thoughts.
Original Brief Language: I selected Business & Consulting as the category because we work with the Women, entrepreneurs and women working at large corporations like The Home Depot, GE, Citibank. The logo needs to be presentable to a business, but we don’t want the logo to be “too corporate.” It needs to have a feminine, natural, almost spa-like quality.
The Hygge Hus is basked on the Danish word Hygge (pronounced “HUE-gah”) which is simply the ritual of enjoying life's simple pleasures - a good book, a walk in the woods, having a cozy lunch with friends, pausing for a cup of coffee/tea in front of fire, being with family/friends without technology, etc. It also includes the elements of graciousness, intention, caring, and kindness which I want to bring into American corporate life, especially for women. Hus is short for House.
The focus of the workshops, retreats, and events is to help women slow down, own their power, believe in the value of kindness, and connect to their own intuition/knowing. We do this by taking people out into nature: picnics, hiking, (laying on the earth), and just sitting out in the sunshine and talking/sharing vs. looking at a PowerPoint presentation in a windowless conference room. Hygge is infused throughout each event so that the attendees feel cozy and safe while they are learning, unwinding in nature and connecting with others – and I want my brand identity to also feel very Hyggelig.
Brand Character: Grounded, Happy, Free, Simple, Clean, Approachable, Cozy, Friendly
Likes: Simple, clean, natural, usable in a variety of formats (size, color, dimension, etc.), can be used on products (t-shirt, mug, etc.).
Dislikes: Busy, hard angles, technology/futuristic look, stock images
***I also have a logo contest for my name "Heather Marie Wilson" if you are interested in doing that one as well***
