Epifiction.com is an interactive serial fiction subscription service. Story-telling 2.0. For this project, I need a book cover for an young adult dystopian serial called "The Green Ones."
What's your vision?
The Green Ones is a Young Adult dystopian story set in an alternate earth w/telekinesis. Tagline: By sixteen, everyone must choose. Pitch: For the telekinetic youth of New Teotihuacan's Worker City there are two choices: an enslaved life or a free death. By sixteen, everyone must choose. Product Description (long): On an earth rampant with telekinesis, Calli Bluehair lives within one isolated city-state among many. New Teotihuacan's protective dome and oppressive regime preserve not only its strict social classes, but also the lie that empowers the immortal class over the workers. After her parents' disintegration in a telekinetic storm accidentally unleashed by her own brother, Calli's only hope of escaping a violent death in the self indulgent underground of New Teotihuacan's Worker City is the government run Masa Academy. Choosing to ignore the rumors that the Academy is an option worse than death, Calli determines to claw her and her little brother's way onto the registry, no matter the personal cost. In the process, Calli finds herself the de facto leader of a ragtag band. Each with separate motives and allegiances, the only thing the teens share in common is their soon-to-be-status as Masa Academy's newest recruits into its most powerful dormitory--the green serpent. Brown's page-turning, dystopian adventure revolves around a heroine who picks up where the Hunger Game's Katniss leaves off. His vivid rendering of telekinesis births a complex, mysterious and provocative world that reveals itself to the reader in a kaleidoscope of detail the longer one chooses to stare through his fractured lens. Design Elements: Central American Society protective city domes surrounded by jungle many advanced technologies have not been developed due to telekinetic abilities 16 year old heroine long black hair worn in a braid (The heroine's hair has a blue hue in the light. braids are often used as weapons, and they have huge cultural significance). green serpent dorm (the academy dorm the main characters will enter). telekinesis and telekinetic storms (create visible light in the EM spectrum as well as intense microwaves). Style: most likely photorealistic (possibly impressionistic) references: Infamous Second Son, The Uglies, Divergent Current Concepts: focal point on the back/side of Calli's head with her long braid wrapped around her neck and whipping about in the air overhead. Girl suspended in telekinetic storm. Portrait style image of determined heroine, her long braid disintegrating from the tip. The dimensions should be 3x2 (ratio) and around 1600x2400 pixels. The cover will be used for each of 8 weekly episodes written this fall. After the serial is completed, it will be used for a paperback as well. So a flexible design for the back cover is required also (the spine measurements are unknown at the moment). Thank you for participating!
I’m not only looking for a single cover design, but also for future partnerships with talented artists who can be relied upon to deliver cover designs and concept art by established deadlines. Currently, Epifiction for Schools requires 8 original covers a year. YA Epifiction will be launching soon and will require 8 to 12 more per year. I prefer artists who would consider communicating with Epifiction’s student readers via our blog (about things like how you get your inspiration, or approach a design, etc.) Because of this, I prefer artists who do not openly display erotic materials in their online portfolios. Epifiction’s subscribers are elementary and middle level schools, so we need to keep this sort of thing in mind even with our freelance contracts. Thank you for participating!
