I am a self-published travel author.
What's your vision?
I need a book cover designed for my travel memoir entitled, “Lift: Stories and Life Lessons from 15 Years of Hitchhiking” The book will be published as both an e-book and printed paperback, so I need a front and back cover (with spine) designed. The book alternates between memoir-style travel stories and short essays about hitchhiking. The stories are funny and light-hearted while the essays (titled “lessons”) are more on the thoughtful side. The target audience are armchair travellers and people interested in travel/hitchhiking memoirs. I’m looking for something based on imagery around the road, hitchhiking or long-term travel. Some examples: an old rucksack; a map; a silhouette of a man hitchhiking; a cardboard sign, etc. I’m also open to ideas. Photo or illustration-based covers are both acceptable. I tend to like covers that are simple, not too busy. Here are some examples of covers in the travel genre that I like: The Dharma Bums by Jack Kerouac (the cover with the 3 photos of the mountains) Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed Torch by Cheryl Strayed Falling Off the Map by Pico Iyer NOTE Things I DO NOT want on the cover: -pictures of a FEMALE hitchhiking -- the author is MALE. -anything that’s obviously American (ie. A “Route 66” sign). I’m Canadian. The Cover Copy should read as follows: Lift: Stories and Life Lessons from 15 Years of Hitchhiking Michael A. Jameson The Back Cover Copy should read as follows: Lift is a collection of hitchhiking stories and lessons from travel writer Michael A. Jameson. From tales of road romance and international espionage, to escaping from horror movie villains and police dogs… This collection represents the funniest, most absurd, and most dangerous situations Michael has managed to get himself into in his last 15 years on the road. He has lived to tell the tale, in the hope that you won’t make the same mistakes he did. ## About the author: Michael’s adventures have taken him across 4 continents and 37 countries, including driving a motorcycle for 6 months across Southeast Asia, hitchhiking across Canada and Japan, and walking 1000 kilometres along the coastline of Nova Scotia. His most recent adventure was hitchhiking from Bosnia to Morocco via Croatia, Italy, Andorra, France and Spain in 2013. Lift is his first book.
