This is a novel taking place in the Roman empire in the year AD 299. It's a retelling of the legend of Saint George and the Dragon.
What's your vision?
We need a book cover for a fictional novel about Saint George and the Dragon. The Title is Sword and Serpent. We don't want it to look like a kids book. It needs to look mature: ages 15 and up. **What George looks like.** If you want to include an image of the main character (George), know that he is not a Roman centurion and does not wear armor. He is dressed in a cloak or non descript robe or toga. Red hair. Stubble beard. 18 years old.
1) Our first preference is a retro 50s looking book jacket. For example the Hobbit cover attached below and the mockup in red and black with the armored arm stabbing the dragon. A stylized more abstract cover. My favorite cover in the attachments is the Sword and Bone book cover. Clean. Flat. Throwback. w/ Vector silhouettes. 2) If we don't go retro, we would go fully modern. We also put a George Martin book cover as an alternative idea and a modern Tolkien concept, as well as a more Young Adult cover *(see the Divergent attachment) or something with George on it like the HungerGames cover (also attached). If you depict the young Saint George on the cover, know that he is 17-18 with red hair, red stubble, chiseled jaw, attractive, and strong. Please stun us with something incredible, but not with worn out clipart cliches of swords and dragons. We don't have the spine width yet, but we can provide that in the days to come.

And then… they selected a winner!
I really loved the way that the design looked and the font. She really captured the colors and brightness that I was looking for, and she followed my instructions very well. She's a very talented designer.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
