Speculative fiction ebook cover

Entertainment & The Arts
Sci-fi and speculative fiction author.
What's your vision?
Summary: - Create a cover for a speculative fiction ebook. - Looking for a simple, clean, bold, minimalist and modern design – visually grabbing to stand out among competing thumbnails. It should use bold colours and strong, modern fonts. I'm not looking for a "typical" sci-fi cover with a graphical illustration. - Needs to look clear and text be legible as a thumbnail as well as full-size. Should be high contrast to look clear in black-and-white, but emphasis is on viewing in colour. - Final dimensions: 2500 pixels tall x 1562 pixels wide. 300 pdi. Cover only (no dustjacket, back cover, etc.). Final .psd file with layers to be provided upon winning the contest. - The one-word book title should be the prominent feature of the cover. The “and other novellas” in the title should be significantly smaller than the first word of the title. The author’s name should be closer in size to the “and other novellas”, perhaps slightly larger. I prefer modern, sans-serif fonts. - Please ensure all images used in the design are properly documented with rights permissions when you submit the design. Please read the following carefully: This is a book of short stories, and I will be choosing the book title based on whatever artwork I feel is most compelling. Below is the list of the possible titles and their corresponding themes. Please choose only one. Please do NOT try to fit all the themes into a single cover – it would make a horrible mess. :) Option 1: [title] Chosen and other novellas [author] Windsor Harries Overall themes: - Indecision, confusion, paranoia, being hunted, being pulled both ways, fear of the unknown, or seeing things out of focus - The general theme of the story involves a gateway or door or path between two worlds. The two worlds are opposites (one normal, one undergoing a slow ruin or decay), but the worlds are linked, like opposite sides of the same coin. Option 2: [title] Rumble and other novellas [author] Windsor Harries Overall themes: - Change, evolution, fear of the unexpected, anxiety, having to make difficult decisions, human frailty, massive destruction or upheaval - The general theme of the story involves earthquakes and the resulting change and the human struggle that results. The rumbling ground is treated like a separate character in the story, so the earth (the ground, not the planet seen from space) is an important theme. Option 3: [title] Voltage and other novellas [author] Windsor Harries Overall themes: - Rebellion, oppression, standing up for oneself, decay or destruction, dystopian worlds, or medieval life contrasted with modern technology - The general theme of the story involves electricity’s positive impact to the human brain. A social uprising occurs after an accident involving electricity. Light (electric light, illuminated lightbulbs, glowing wires) are a strong theme in the story. Option 4: [title] Moon and other novellas [author] Windsor Harries Overall themes: - Isolation, solitude, self-doubt, anxiety, fear of the unknown, making history - The general theme of the story involves a lone spaceman travelling between Earth and the moon, to make first contact with aliens. As with ‘Rumble’ above, the moon is treated almost like a separate character. A recurring image is of the edge of the moon with a faint purple glow to it. Once again, any images I mentioned are for ideas only – I really want something very artistic, interpretive, abstract or impressionist that captures the overall feeling. I’m looking for a cover that I’d like to hang on my living room wall as art. Many thanks. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have. Windsor
I prefer more impressionistic or conceptual designs – please no graphical illustrations dominating the cover. Please check out the finalists from my previous contest, and you’ll get an idea of my taste. However, please note this book in NOT a continued series, so I don’t want anything similar to my previous book cover. Surprise me - I'm open to lots of ideas!!
