What's your vision?
We require an ebook cover for a new psychological thriller called I Saw You. The book is by author Ryan Casey. It is a dark psychological thriller with elements of crime and mystery. The story is about a happily married woman called Emily Skinner who one day receives a letter through her door with the words "I Saw You" written on them. From that point on, Emily's life begins to spin out of control, as it is clear that some of her dark secrets are catching up with her... There is a very "Gone Girl" feel to this twisting, turning mystery, which features an unreliable narrator, Emily Skinner. We'd like to capture this dark unpredictability through the cover. In fact, the Gone Girl cover is a very good example of dark, minimalistic design: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gone-Girl-Gillian-Flynn-ebook/dp/B007ZXK08C/ref Ideally, we wouldn't like any characters facing forwards on the cover. The image we have in our mind is of a woman with dark hair looking out into the distance over a pier of some kind, or into the vast distance. But there are some elements of "static" or "disruption" in the image. Something to show that the state of mind of the protagonist is unreliable just from looking at the cover. As for the text elements: it would be great if the author name font matched the one in the following covers, so to stay consistent with the author's unique branding: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bubblegum-Smoothie-Blake-Dent-Mysteries-ebook/dp/B00O6BB6NY/ref http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sunlight-Ryan-Casey-ebook/dp/B00ORZ27D2/ref But do feel free to deviate from the placement of the author name where necessary. As long as the font is clearly visible as a "Ryan Casey" font, then that's fantastic. As for other text elements, incorporating "From the Author of the Brian McDone Series" somewhere on the cover would be fantastic. And if there is room for a tagline, "The Past Always Catches Up..." would be great. I Saw You is a twisting, turning psychological thriller, so of course the cover needs to show an understanding of other covers in the genre. It's dark, unpredictable, and that needs to be reflected on the cover. Careful study of other covers in the genre, particularly bestsellers, is required. Please feel free to flex your creative muscles in coming up with something dark and unique. Some of the common themes and elements in the story are a dark haired woman, a woods/forest, a series of letters and photographs, the past catching up with you, secrets, trust, murder, darkness, unreliability... but of course not all these elements are required. Just to give you an idea of the sorts of themes you are working with. A unique, interesting, thinking out-of-the-box cover with elements of psychological thrillers/mysteries and the branding of other Ryan Casey thrillers, such as font for the author name (full list here: http://ryancaseybooks.com/books) is all that is required. Flex your creative muscles and have fun. We can't wait to see what you come up with. Ps: the work of Harlan Coben is always good inspiration for psychological thriller covers.
