About The Work: Our story is set in "T'Amorach," a world whose environment was long ago poisoned by a cataclysmic event of unknown origin. Much of the world is covered in a caustic myst that flows across its badlands like water. Under the right atmospheric conditions, however, it can ignite destroying anything, and anyone, caught in its path. From the myst rise great shielded cities- force protected zones where like minded survivors form uneasy alliances to ensure mutual survival. The militaristic and the religious are each sequestered in their own zones as are Artificial life forms and the Lokaryn (For our shorthand here you can think of them as vampyres). A great zone where trade is carried out and an equally strong zone where those less committed to honest dealings shelter. Nine major zones and numerous minor zones dot the landscape all engaged in survival for their people. Much as they try not to, they need each other to survive. Trade between the zones is mostly conducted via myst clipper ships that sail on the mysts between the zones. It is about one of these myst clippers that our story revolves. Her name is "The Shicaine" and she is captained by a man who has lost his name and birthright. Once a prince in a zone dedicated to the avoidance of all technology, his fascination with that same tech left him branded as a heretic. Banished from his home, he calls himself Gedrick now and he has risen to become the captain of one of the pinnacle achievements of tech in this world: The Myst-clipper ship. So adept is he with this technology that he acquires a rare, experimental myst clipper known as a Garand-Trass. He christens his ship The Shicaine and assembles a crew from across the Zones: Kisner, his first mate and first, best friend after leaving his home, Derring, the Lokaryn who would become a clan lord, Hennix the net-roque with the wet and software to project his consciousness into the ether of the electronic world, Hemmingway a sentient android, and Seyschell the petite mutant woman with the strength of many many men many times her size and more. Though typically used to facilitate trade between the zones, Myst-Clippers, for some, serve a secret purpose: Freedom. Within T'Amorach an intense conflict rages over the standing of sentient machines. Some hold them to be property, while others hold them to be individuals. Under Gedrick's command, the Shicaine aligns with the latter and works as part of an underground network to liberate androids who have achieved sentience. The ship and its crew are branded as outlaws, but spared death through the intervention of powerful friends. The agreement is that they must scatter and never, can they ever, see one another again. Our main story takes place five years after their capture as former crew members begin turning up dead. Now in a race against time, Gedrick works to save his old crew and unravel the mystery of why someone is trying to bring the zones to the brink of war.
About The Cover: The Title of the book is The Myst Clipper Shicaine" This is the first of four book covers. so "Book I" should be included. The series title is Cataclysm The authors are Kerry Forrestal and John Fracchia The cover should have the following elements: 1) A nautical theme. In a previous attempted contest one design incorporated our world map as a background/water mark. Though not a requirement, we liked this look a lot. 2) Incorporation of the myst clipper ship. We have sketches of what one looks like to guide you. ***************************************** NEW AS OF 19SEPT2015 Thank you all for your contributions, there are some good ones, however we haven't found exactly what we're looking for, based on feedback from a friend who is an editor at a major publishing house(Yes your stuff is getting looked at by someone at that level) we'd like to try an alternate approach- ~please avoid use of "Poser" ~ For those of you who have read the brief and the attached article- we're going to throw open the door at this point to creative approaches ~Perhaps the clipper passing by one of the zones, shielded massive cities rising above the myst or a light house(Please try to avoid light house cliches Good luck! ********************************************************************************** We have included chapters to aid you in getting a feel for the world. Important Rules Of The Contest: If in your designs you use clipart, please indicate if this is your final image intention or if you are using the image as a placeholder for other artwork.
