I'm a fiction author and I publish my books independently.
What's your vision?
I need a cover for my upcoming novel DEATH POPE It is a fun, action-packed pseudo-historical tale about a young man who is elected to be a puppet pope for political reasons, but once he sees the corruption and villainy of the church leadership (at that time) he feels called to clean things up vigilante style. DEATH POPE is a pulpy action and political thriller set in 16th century Rome -- Tarantino meets Robin Hood. I think "gothic" might be a good general starting point, but I am fairly open to a variety of cover styles. I'd really like something that juxtaposes the bizarre and awesome mash-up of vigilante assassin hiding in the pope's habit in plain sight. "Pope by day, Death by night." For instance, I've had this image in my head of my hero, a 16-year-old boy, medium build, dark hair, not too short or long, head bowed in the miter e.g. "The pope hat", in white papal vestments, arms crossed holding weapons, like daggers. If you can make that look stunning, then hey, go for it. I'm open-minded, but that is the sort of juxtaposition I am going for. *Does not have to be an image of the main character. *Can be anything that strikes the right cord with a potential reader* Drama, pulpiness...an over-the-top cover, for an over-the-top book. I think the dominant colors ought to be the crimson of the blood spilled and the robes the cardinals wear, the white of the customary Papal garb, steel, black. Fire plays a decent sized role in this book, particularly the idea of burning (innocent) people at the stake, and then ultimately using the same as revenge on the baddies....so there may be something you can work with there. I'd also like for the design to be usable for the rest of the series, where the designer could, in future 1-to-1 projects, replace an element, say a weapon being held, and add in a subtitle. So space-wise, you might figure that in, even though this first book will not have a subtitle. ***Please do not include any images of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, as it had not been built at the time this story takes place.
