What's your vision?
"Kissing the Crisis” is a book of humorous essays relating the author’s personal adventures coping with the onset of middle age. The target market is women in their 40s and early 50s. The humor is very self-deprecating, and the author primarily makes fun of herself. The overall tone is that aging is ridiculous and trying to avoid aging is ridiculous. The author recommends seeing middle age as a way of revisiting old passions and developing new interests, but she gleefully relates that her own attempts to refind her mojo in middle age have been pretty ridiculous too. The mood of the book is that life is never entirely under one’s control, and all attempts to impose order on life are silly. The three things the cover should make clear is that the book is 1) Humor; 2) About middle age; and 3) By a woman, about women’s experiences, and primarily for women readers. The cover should have a touch of humor, but it should avoid vulgarity. The cover should be feminine, funny, self-mocking, and with a touch of slapstick and chaos. I would think that a text-based cover would be best, unless there is a symbol or illustration that is exactly suited to the tone of the book.
The cover dimensions are 6" (wide) by 9" (tall). Please see the attached Word document for additional details on the chapters.
