I'm a swiss fantasy author. And well ... I kinda don't have the talent to create a cover by my own. So I need your skills!
What's your vision?
I need an eBook-cover for my new fantasy novel "Deykanien - Der Dämonenbeschwörer". It's written in german. "Deykanien" is the world where the story takes place. The subtitle "Der Dämonenbeschwörer" can be translated into "The summoner of demons". STORY (spoiler) Tarik, son of a smith - not bitch ;), helps with an unintentionally action the cruel demons of the world "Rak'tarr" to invade in his homeland "Deykanien" through a big portal. They are hungry and want to eat all the creatures on "Deykanien". Tarik doesn't recognise his doings and is really confused when the guild of mages - the most powerful organization and ruler of the world - arrests him. They blame him for helping the enemy and sentence him to death. But a small group of rebels rescue him. They think he is the chosen and only one who can save the planet. And so an epic adventure begins to bring the demons back to their homeland and to close the portal ... but they have not a single clue how to achieve that. After a nerve racking and unsuccessful travel through the whole world, the story surprises with an unexpected ending. The novel is written in an entertaining way and doesn't take itself very serious. WHAT HAS TO/COULD BE ON THE COVER: 1. DEMONS Demons are the big threat and the main topic of the story. So they have to be on the cover. In the book demons are described as black - and only black - "three-dimensional" shadows in all possible shapes (humans, giants, hybrid creatures, animals, and whatever) with evil red glowing eyes. For a cool look you can implement black smoke around them or something like that ;) just let them look evil. I attached a picture of a demon to get you an idea how I imagine them. And well ... it doesn't have to be in that "abstract" way. And also the shape can be different. 2. PORTAL The demons enter "Deykanien" through a Portal, wich stands in a huge golden dome (but the dome doesn't have to be on the cover, you can also just place the portal "outdoors"). The portal is a blue, non-transparent, glowing fog with a border made of grey stones (like a big stone doorway). I also attached a picture of a portal to inspire you ;) The inside should be non-transparent and blue as I described above. And of course the surrounding doesn't have to be like the one in the picture. 3. TARIK He is the protagonist of the story, so he has kinda the right to be on the cover ... He is 18 years old, strong because of the the ironwork he does with his father. He has short dark blonde hair and a "leaky" three-day beard. He wears a brown leather armor, and he fights with two short battleaxes, but he is not very brave and useless in a fight ;) 4. THE GUARDIAN He is a magic creature in an impressing golden plate armor with a golden polearm. The helmet cover up his face, only the white eyes glow through small slots and where normally the mouth is, there's just darkness. He defends the portal, through that the demons attack. He is an incredible fighter who can stand alone against ten thousands soldiers. People even say he is invincible. Well, people always say a lot ... IMPORTANT: At least one demon has to be on the cover and it must contain some funny elements, so people know that the story isn't that serious. MY OWN COVER-IDEAS (just suggestions): 1. Tarik stands in front of the big blue portal and watches it. He's in a posture like he's just saying: "Oops, did I do that?" (scratching his head?). A giant evil demon looks out of the portal and inspects Tarik from above. He has red glowing eyes (and a big white demon-smile?) Maybe you can add the scene a mystic look. 2. In the background a lot demons flow out of the blue portal. They get fought by the guardian. In the foreground the scared Tarik hides himself behind a stone or sneaks away? In his back (or above him) a demon stretches out his fingers in his direction. The demon has red eyes (and maybe a big white demon-smile?). Tarik doesn't see him. Maybe this idea has too many elements in it, but it shows how the mentioned objects and characters above, match together. You see there is not a very specific cover design in my mind, so just unleash your imagination and show your skills! And if you don't want to take a risk just make an awesome idea 1 ;)
WHAT THE COVER HAS TO BE: - .JPG, RGB-colorspace, max. 5MB - No white border - min. resolution (Height x Width): 2560 x 1600px (16:10) - It also should look good in thumbnail size and in black and white for the eReaders THE FOLLOWING TEXT HAS TO BE ON THE COVER: - Book titel: Deykanien - Subtitel: Der Dämonenbeschwörer - Author: Jonas Maag Please only use pictures where you have the copyrights. Teodora did a fantastic job creating a cover for my eBook. Her design matches perfectly to my description and reflects the atmosphere of the story precisely. Every modification I mentioned she worked out in an excellent way and suggested own improvements for the cover. It was an honor to work with her and I recommend her highly!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
